I just had one of the worst customer service nightmares in my not-so-young life with the Mgr/Owner(?) psycho at the infamous Holloway Motel in West Hollywood.

I was there this past weekend on a Talent Seach and to see "Jersey Boys". I chose the Motel because of its location -- I already knew it was shabby as I had stayed there before -- so I was not expecting a palace.

To cut to the chase: my passkey was not working properly -- took me approx 25-30 min. to get the door to open when I returned to my room at midnight the first eve. Of course, there was NOBODY on duty -- no number to call, no bell to ring etc. After I (and the guys in the next room) fidgeted with the key for 30 min -- we were finally able to get my door to open.

When I complained to the mgr the next AM -- the crazy Brit owner screamed in my face: "if you don't like it, get the fuck out!" -- which is exactly what I did. Of course I was charged for 2 nights --even tho I only stayed for one. (I am disputing charge).

Anybody else have bad experiences at this motel to share? Feel free to post here -- or e-mail me directly. I urge all WeHo visitors to avoid this hellhole like the plague.

Thanks!

Dave

If you already knew this motel was a flea bag which offered little to no customer service or amenities-- why stay there? There are other and better facilities in WeHo where you could have stayed and done whatever your heart desired.

Sorry to have heard about your bad experience, but I would try to have the second night cancelled on the cc and just chalk up this experience as one gone quite awry. If the charge cannot be cancelled, just view it as a loss!

Axiom: Thx for your concern. I did reverse the charges on the 2nd night -- and hopefully there will be no further complications.

I understand that this was not a high-end motel -- but that still does not excuse this nutjob/owner's disgraceful behavior. It's kinda a shame: That place is such prime real estate -- it would be booked up nightly if they took a little pride in the place. Oh well.

I not only posted this message to bitch -- but also to warn: "Buyer Beware" -- as I know many gay travellers are lured to this place. (It USED to be MUCH nicer in the late 90's).

Deej: Yes -- I hired 2 (possibly 3) new hotties. Enrique (gorgeous, HUGE-dicked young Power-Top) and Paul (British boy-next-door cutie). Both should appear on my website manana.

Sorry to say -- I never did get to see Jersey Boys. The motel fiasco set off an unfortunate chain of events which caused me to return to Palm Springs early and miss the show. :-(

Dave you aren't the only one who this has happened too. I stayed at this place last spring while in LA for a concert and while I didn't get yelled at upon unpacking when I got home I realized I had forgotten a shirt in the closet. I promptly called the hotel and talked to the English guy and gave permission to use my cc to fed ex my shirt back up to Seattle. He said he'd do it promptly and well a little over a year later I am still waiting for my shirt. Since I have not received my shirt I am going to have to say that it was stolen plain and simple. I will not be staying at this place again. Guess we get what we pay for? On a side note quite a few years ago now I was staying at the Hotel Monaco in SF and while waiting for my car to pick me up for the airport my cell phone fell out of my pocket. I called back to the hotel described the phone and it was promptly fed ex'd back up to Seattle for me. Since they did the right thing now when ever I can and the price is right I try to stay at Kimpton properties.

Hugs,

Greg

Greg,

Along those lines, I left a pocket planner in a rental car in Portland. I didn't realize it, but a month later i was back there and thought I'd check with them. Sure enough, it was there. I asked why they didn't contact me since it had my name and number in it. The manager explaind that they had expereinces with trying to return items to people and when they called, their spouses answered. Seems that these their husbands/wives didn't tell them that they were going to Portland. Trouble ensued. Thus, they decided that it was the burden of the customer to contact them regarding lost goods.

I left a pager in a bathroom once in at my place of business. I realized that I had left it about 20 minutes afterward. I went back to the bathroom--it wasn't there. I then began paging myself for around 10 minutes. No response. About 20 minutes later, the overhead operator pages my name and tells me where the pager is. I go up to the desk where the pager was. They say, "We are glad you came to pick this up. It kept going off." AAARGH !!!!!!

PS The hotel that Dave stayed at has a lot of bad reviews on Tripadvisor going back at least to 2003.

I had the opposite experience at the Holloway several years ago: the management was a little TOO friendly!

When I checked in, the guy at the desk (not a Brit, but old and creepy) gave me a coupon for a "free massage" that he said was a special welcome service they offered to their guests.

Curious, I called the number on the coupon...and the creepy guy answered. Yes, he was the one offering to give me the massage. I did not take him up on the offer.

Greg, just a note to remark that Kimpton properties are "gay-friendly" places. I stay in Kimpton hotels in Chicago whenever I can for that reason.

While it is nice the chain is gay friendly after a stay a few years ago in Chicago made it much nicer. One winter Boobers and I decided to head out to Chicago so I could experience a Chicago winter and stayed at one of Kimpton's properties. We need direction on how to get to a resteraunt on the south side. The concierge looked the resteraunt up online and gaspt (really she did). The place in question was deeeep in the south side and she told us that and tried to discourage us from going. Telling us that even as a black woman she doesn't even go on that side of town. We told her we'd be fine and we were wanting to go during day light hours. Shaking her head she handed us her card and told us that if we were unable to get back from the south side to give her a call and she'd arrange a car to get us. We made it back safe and sound obviously but I thought that she went above and beyond by caring about our well being and safety. That is what makes Kimpton so special for me.

Greg

Despite the bad reviews the reason why places like this and the Ramada down the street are still open is because of the location. Scott or anyone else who knows the area can vouch for this I am sure but it is in a good location. It is only a few block from the bars, about a mile or so from the mall and not that further to BH and the parking at the place is free which is about a $25 or so savings a day. If this place were any place else my guess is that it wouldn't last a year.
