I've read (seriously) Debbie Allen is directing an all-black cast in the Tennessee Williams drama. LL Cool J is "Brick" and Beyonce may just be "Maggie the Cat".

I can't wait for Beyonce to shriek "you no-necked monsters!" to May's (might I suggest the gal who got cut from "Idol" last week?) kids.

Anyway, when tickets go on sale, I'd love a heads up from my New York friends. After all, I MISSED "Carrie"!!! x( And didn't our director here have something to do with that blink-and-you-miss-it-but-BOY-you-should-have-seen-it-mess, too?

James Earl Jones as Big Daddy?

I have never seen a purplekow;

I never hope to see one;

I can tell you anyhow;

I'd rather see than be one

Help there is a purplekow in my mirror

"No, no. Morgan Freeman."

I think you're both wrong, it has to be someone as ridiculous as Beyonce and LL Cool J.

Maybe Cedric The Entertainer or Sinbad.

Yes, it is true an African-American production of Cat is in the works, but not without some difficulties. First, as previously reported there have been a number of casting choices. Second, they are unable to find an available theater and have postponed the production date from fall, 2007 to 2008.

No word on the casting of Beyonce at this point although, I guess it is speculative, at best. Tony winner Phylicia Rashad, Allen's sister, was previously reported to be in talks to play Big Mamma. She won her Best Actress Tony for the recent revival of A Raisin in the Sun. An offer went out to Danny Glover for Big Daddy. Other star names — Thandie Newton and Anika Noni Rose for Maggie, and Blair Underwood and LL Cool J for Brick — were also bandied about.

The most recent production of Cat was 2003 with Jason Patric, Ashley Judd and Ned Beatty.

In other Broadway news, also in the works is a musical based on The Addams Family.

Alas, Journey's End is to close in June, and Corem Boy closes on Sunday night. I have been told that both shows are suffering from low audience attendance.

Boyd Gaines, Tony nominated for his role in Journey's End, has secured another gig and will play opposite Patti Lupone as Herbie at City Center Encores! production of Gypsy in July.

Sorry you missed "Carrie," I was one of the few who saw it and thought it fabulous. The novel was transformed by composer Michael Gore, lyricist Dean Pitchford and librettist Lawrence D. Cohen into a musical. The show, directed by Terry Hands, starred Linzi Hateley as Carrie and Betty Buckley as her religious fanatic mother. The title has since become something of a catchword for "flop." It was recently revived off-Broadway at PS 122 in 2006.

I think Eddie Murphy should play Big Mamma. Doing time in a gay-themed play would benefit him greatly.

I saw "Carrie" too, front row during previews, and thought it was great. Wanted to buy one of the display black sweatshirts they were showing however their supply hadn`t arrived yet or never. Too bad it tanked.

Darlene Love was in it too, if I recall correctly ?.

Well, Martin Lawrence has already played "Big Momma" in two movies, so I think he has the edge.
