You've gotta love YouTube - without it, I would never have heard this (she sings at the end).

She was 29yo and her voice was at its peak - good golly Miss Molly could that bitch sing!

And when you're finished watching that one (for the 5th straight time), check out this......

I know it borders on hyperbole, but there will never be a vocal talent to match hers - ever.

At the risk of detracting from Miss Barbra, not to mention turning this into a nominations exercise which is not my intent, FFF with all due respect IMHO we could add Garland to that lofty category.

Sorry, I don't have the patience to search utube for Judy music (nor do I know any of it could do her justice). Like Barbra, she is simply incomparable. }(

Both are remarkable links. THANKS!

But did you notice that first one was the same medley that Miss S. did with Tony Bennett on the duet album he made last year?

She sang melody (not harmony) with both, but both singers held the stage with her.

She's good, but not the best.

When I was growing up, my parents let me stay up for very few TV shows but the Judy Garland show was a given. I probably saw those clips when they originally aired. I feel old, but it's great to see them again!

>Babs and Judy are OK, but I'll stick with Patti Smith. :)

Could we add Peggy Lee to this list - - - please......

Ladies, what I'm referring to is the beauty of the voice. I happily concur with the widely held opinion that Garland was the greatest vocal PERFORMER ever, however Streisand's instrument has no equal.

Clarifyingly yours,

I got to see all four female singers mentioned so far in person (plus Ella Fitzgerald), both in their prime and after their prime.

IMO Garland was the most exciting woman concert performer. She brought decades of knowledge of how to capture an audience's attention from vaudeville and MGM. She was a once in a lifetime live performer, but only had a few good concert years in peak voice.

Patti Smith is my favorite rock performer, next to Dylan and Springsteen. I have seen her perform dozens of time, as recently as three weeks ago in an outdoor concert.

My vote for the best voice goes to Ella Fitzgerald. Ella's greatness was the ability to sing for two and a half hour night after night for decades, yet have fun and never make it seem like a big deal. I like jazz singers, so Peggy Lee would also be high on my list.

I liked the Streisand of "I Can Get It For You Wholesale" and "Funny Girl." She was still learning to act, but just about every song stopped the show. Her concerts seem too programmed and perfect to me, but her voice is still thrilling.

I forgot Connie Francis. And she still has it (we just saw her in concert and she is still singing in the same key, still belting it out and holding those soaring notes...although she does have that Joan Rivers alien face now). Here is the only remaining clip from her 1967 German TV special:

You're welcome. Everyone I emailed it to said the same thing...that they were forwarding it to everyone they knew. The reactions have been interesting; some love it and some hate it. Btw, I loved the Marianne Faithfull clip. :)
