Well boys the weather is looking on the up and up in many parts of the country in the coming days and better weather is just around the corner with the summer months. Just wanted to throw out a few reminders for some of you out there. First please please please PLEASE DO NOT leave your dog in the car! Sure it might seem like a nice comfy 60 outside but close the doors and roll up the windows and that 60 can quickly shoot up to the 70's and 80's in the car. No bueno for fido that was left in the car. Don't think that isn't bad? Do it in the summer and temps can reach the 100's. Leaving fido in the car esp during summer is considered animal abuse and can land you a hefty fine.

Second tip for y'all, please watch out for bicyclists, motorcycles and scoots. We can surely see you but if you don't turn your heads and check your blind spots you might not see us. DO NOT trust your mirrors! Often times when I had a car the mirrors lied. Those of us who are on two wheels are small so double check or even triple check for us when making turns or changing lanes. Last summer I can count three times where a car just about ran me off the rode because they didn't turn their heads. One of those three times I did actually get hit and he drove off even after i braced myself on his hood because he didn't check his blind spot. So yeah check your blind spots! Key words here folk is blind spots. I might be on just a small scoot but I carry a big fist that will bust your window!

Third tip, GET OFF YOUR FUCKING CELL PHONES!!!!!!!!!!! There is NO reason you should be driving and talking on the cell! The only person that should be on their cell is a Doctor other wise PUT THE FUCKING THINGS AWAY!

Follow those three things and everyone will have a happy summer.

Hugs,

Greg

Seaboy--

Thanks for posting your "fair-weather" tips. Unfortunately the bozos who really need to read this advice, either won't or will ignore it, or worse yet, will write "rants" here saying what assholes and Fascists we are for suggesting that THEY alter their behaviour.

There are not many "toys" on my wish list, but there is one bit of technology I wish was available to the public: a "scrambler" that when pointed at a cell phone interrupts the call with an annoying BUZZZZZZZZZ or something. I've heard such technology is available but illegal.

Thanks again---hope you have a great summer.

I would love that cell phone scrambler! Espcially at work when people come up to the counter and talking on their cell phones. As it is now I just skip over them and go on to the next person and help them. I know not nice but hey it is ok not be to be connect for 3 minutes really the world wont end.

Back in the mid-90's, when cell phones were first becoming affordable and commonplace, I was working for a clothing chain in an upscale mall on Chicago's North Shore. I was ringing up a 30-something woman who was yacking on the phone and was not paying attention to me asking how she would like to pay for the order. A 70-something woman, who had been a regular customer for nearly 20 years, grabbed the phone, shouted "she'll call you back" to the person on the other end, closed the phone, glared at the woman and said "Now pay the man. I'm an old woman. I don't want to die here." The entire line cracked up, the yacker handed me a credit card (which required a voice authorization), took her stuff, and left. The older lady told me that the benefit of being old is that she can say all the things she wanted to say when she was young and get away with it.

PML!!!!! Oh that is great! That just reminded me a bit ago Boobers and I were at a burger place called Red Mill (best damn burgers in the city!) and they have a no cell phone policy. Well we were inside waiting to order and this 20 something blondie gets on her phone. Boobers is much more up spoken then I most of the time and he just reads her like a Dick and Jane book. Poor thing I thought she was gonna piss her Victoria Secrets lol.

Greg, sometimes when the weather is warmer we can be temnpted to go out wearing a sock or underwear with a hole in in. Resis this temptation and you will never be in a car accident.

I did read about something which one can add to the walls and cell phones won't operate inside them? Or did I dream that? I know it could be misused, but it would be nice to have it in some places and then a sign on the door warning people. It would be especially nice in places where people intend to turn off their cell phones but sometimes forget to. Like church or the theater. I don't know about your church but ours reminds people at the beginning of each service to turn them off or silence them. And we still, very rarely, get ones that ring that someone thought he'd turned off and hadn't.

Buildings or rooms sheathed in metal with the right properties. Technically a "Faraday cage."

Mobile phones and radios may have no reception inside elevators or similar structures. Some traditional architectural materials act as Faraday shields in practice. These include plaster with metal lath, and rebar reinforced concrete. These affect the use of cordless phones and wireless networks inside buildings and houses.

The weather in the part of Ontario where I live is not good. That is not to say it has not been nice because it has. But its been dry and warm. It could be a very bad year for bush fires, and right now many people aren't even harvesting trees because its just too dangerous.

With regards to cell phones. I don't have one. I get calls every now and then, by people asking my to use their cell phone service, but I can't justify the expense, plus many people I know who now have them use them a lot. I recall one day a few years back where I counted five cars turning a corner onto the street where I lived, and all the drivers had a cell phone in one hand and were trying to negotiate the corner with the other hand. Just an accident waiting to happen. Then there was an incident where a father in the Toronto area started chatting on a cell phone while he was driving. He drove through railway a crossing guard and got killed when he was hit by a train. The child that was with him got killed to I think.

Cell phones have their place, but they should never be in the hand of a person driving a vehicle.
