The stars have been open about the show being planned as a six year run. So the renewal for three years is in keeping with that plan. I imagine it gives the creative team time to develop arcs for each of the main characters that stretch over a season and then a more detailed arc which is established for the run of the show.

I barely got through season one. I couldn't stand Kevin's vapidity, Toby's saintliness, and William having the most drawn-out TV death since Dr. Auschlander took about 5 years to die from liver cancer on SAINT ELSEWHERE.

 

I started recording the second season, intending to watch it, but never got the enthusiasm needed to begin.
