You've been harping on this since the accident. Please tell me where you read that there will be no consequences?

I've seen several reports that say both the driver and the Governor were likely to AT LEAST be ticketed for their respective crimes, and I suspect the driver will also be cited for excessive speed, reckless endangerment, and several other things. These are the exact same penalties "commoners" would receive.

Where have you read that none of this will happen?

Well, because of WHO he is it was being implied here he also be tarred and feathered. I guess I was shocked at the lack of concern in this thread for his physical well being. Once again, it was being implied he "got what he deserved".

Does this thread go on fire now?

It's quite possible that the driver was driving at that speed at the Govenor's insistance. If so, do you still think he should be liable for following a direct order from the highest authority in the state?

No, I am NOT forgetting that he was critically injured; NO I am not forgetting that he has a family; NO I am not lacking in sympathy for the pain he is going through: NO I am not beating up on him.

BUT there are consequences for all of US for OUR actions---including a wealthy Governor who is "head strong" and used to having his own way. He is the chief executive of one of the 50 states; he apparently appeared in Public Address statements about seatbelt use. He probably spoke about "law and order" in his campaign speeches. He has children and in all these cases needs to lead by example.

He is not solely at fault. The trooper/driver is also to be faulted. He should have insisted on the seatbelt being fastened; he should not have been traveling at 90 MPH. PERIOD.

Lucky? Yes, all those involved in this accident---and yes it was an accident due to the carelessness of a driver---were LUCKY that they were not killed.

What's the bottom line? Follow laws that were made to protect YOU and YOUR FAMILY and OTHERS. As far as I can see, there are no problems with Seat Belts or Seat Belt Laws.

New Jersey Governor Breathing on Own

By GEOFF MULVIHILL

Associated Press Writer

CAMDEN, N.J. — Gov. Jon S. Corzine was breathing on his own again Friday after doctors removed a breathing tube he'd been using since he was critically injured in an April 12 high-speed crash, his spokesman said. Doctors removed the tube shortly before 12:30 p.m. Friday, spokesman Anthony Coley said.

Breathing unassisted moves Corzine closer to having his condition upgraded. He has been listed as critical but stable since he was brought to Cooper University Hospital last week.

Today Jon Corzine left hospital and publically apologized for his behaviour which directly led to the injuries he sustained. He said he would try to set a better example for the people. I think he took the right tack and demonstrated he is deserving of sympathy and support. Too bad he drove away in a motorcade doing 70mph in a 55mph zone but what the heck! :o
