In case this show comes your way (and I don't think I've seen a post about it), a hot hunky black actor plays a Chippendale stripper in this touring road show with Joan Collins and Linda Evans and gets buck naked with a top hat held in the most strategic place. But he shows all of his ass and what a sexy ass it is. And, oh, those pecs!

Sounds like Collins & Evans have hit the skids.

Oh, where to start. ;-)

Actually, the nudity in their LA premier was apparently Collins herself thanks to a wardrobe malfunction.

I heard that her wardrobe, which was a tad snug, had a zipper on the back that was either uncooperative or downright busted. It gradually let itself go (while she kept trying to fix it) until she was literally mooning the audience every time she turned around.

Now doesn't that make you want to see the play? ;-)

RE: Naked in "Legends!"

The girls are looking good and the play looks fun.

The hunk’s name is Will Holman and, judging from an interview he did a few months ago, he knows how to work an audience. Lap dance anyone?

Will: The first preview we had for a select audience which was mainly the family of the crew and the theatre. So I’m dancing. When I pull my pants off, which is basically the second move of the scene. Everything came off. I mean everything! The pants, the boxers. Even the thong came off. So I just finished the dance with my hands over my privates. I should have gone into the audience and charge more money for that.

I've seen both the current "Legends" with Evans and Collins and the original version with Mary Martin and Carol Channing, which ran a year on the road during 1986-87. The play by James Kirkwood is worse than awful, but at least the 1986-87 production had true theater legends in the two main roles.

The male stripper and hash brownies were pretty dated even in the 1980s.

It is truly incredible that they are using the same script, with little or no updates, twenty years later. I got to see "Legends" in Philly in October or November, 2006, even with a free ticket it was a complete waste of time.

Yes, the script is pretty bad. And the Kirkwood estate will not allow changes. Collins tried ad-libbing some updated lines and the company got a letter from the estate's lawyers. It's crazy. (But Will is still a hot guy, IMHO.)

I saw "Legends" at a sold out Saturday matinee performance in Boston in 1986. Carol Channing and Mary Martin had been performing in the play for about seven months. For some reason, Martin could not stop laughing during the strip number (and the audience kept laughing with her). That kept the stripper on stage for a very long time, which was great. So there are ways to spice up the story, without changing a word in the script.

It also helps to have a star (Mary Martin) who almost invented 'innocent' tomboy lead roles for women in musicals (South Pacific, Peter Pan, I Do I Do, The Sound of Music and several others).

Tealady:

Do you remember that Saturday afternoon in Boston?

Kirkwood in "Dairy of a Mad Playwrite" maintained that Channing was outraged by the Martin-stripper antics. Outraged enough to mention it (and asked for a vote) during a talk she gave to a ladies' club right

the curtain came down.

Kirkwood dies from AIDS before his book was published, yet his health is never mentioned in "Dairy of a Mad Playwrite." Any thoughts as to why the silence?

back then it aids was just not talked about. Jimmy was robust and full of fun during the time. we did not know he was sick.

i remember the story, i don't remember it happening that way, carol did ask the group if they thought something was funny, but i don't think it was the stripper's number. also boston was the place where they did want to cut mary's 2nd act speech, and it is true she left the meeting and locked her dressing room door.
