For the longest time I have heard it referred to as LBGT (Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Transgendered) but as of late have been hearing LGBT and tonight even GLBT which got me to wondering. Is ther an officially sanctioned acronym for us?

There's a whole can of worms this community doesn't need opened ;)

I'm just surprised you've heard LBGT ever. I just received a minor in LGBT studies (yes, there's actually a minor) and the only other manifestation of four letters that I ever came across was GLBT. The "gays" and the lesbians have always been at odds who gets to go first. Irony lies in the fact that Gays are both "gays" and lesbians but since the women didn't feel they were being represented they needed their own abbreviation in the mix.

Some other popular acronyms you'll find in the extreme "all inclusive" groups are LGBTIQ2(squared)

Interesexed, Queer, and Questioning are starting to feel they don't like being lumped together in the aforementioned labels. If you want a REAL headache read any piece by Butler in regard to Queer Theory. If you ever wanted to go straight reading that would help you give up wanting to associate with cocksucking ;)

I usually say GLBT. Some organizations use "Queer", in a positive sense, as an all encompasing description.

Well, one of our large defense contractors (Northrop Grumman) just received an award from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) for its diversity program. According to the Northrop Grumman press release:

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25, 2006 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been honored with a top ranking by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) for its commitment to diversity by ensuring the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) employees and consumers.

Northrop Grumman, which received a 100-percent ranking, was one of 138 companies receiving a top ranking this year. The company also ranked highest in Southern California. (Bolding added by me.)

So, a very large, national employer appears to prefer GLBT.

As an aside, I was rather surprised by further comments by Northrop Grumman:

"Northrop Grumman takes pride in its top rating," said Sandra Evers-Manly, vice president of ethics and diversity. "We have committed to building an inclusive and diverse environment that complements the unique differences in our ever-changing workforce and world."

Never thought I'd see a defense contractor embrace diversity to that level! :7
