Is there any inside scoop we should know about the Mintboys site? I've read their "About Us" and FAQ. There seem to be some legitimate ads, based on overlap with other sites and based on some reverse searches.

What I find strange is that there seem to be quite a few ads with absolutely no information -- just pics, age, and phone number. These ads have no stats at all and no words in the narrative section of the ad. Is there a reasonable explanation for these sorts of ads on the Mintboys site?

I know the owner (not face to face), and trust him. I think he is running an honest business, although I am not sure about his business model.

I agree with your criticism. I told him that he should force the advertisers to complete a form with more information, but he rejected my idea arguing that he did not want any obstacles that could deter a prospective advertiser who may be intimidated by a form.

I am not convinced, but at the same time I think it is a model very appropriated for FESTA/FOSTA times. You should reach out and give him your feedback. If there are many telling him that the information in he ads is too poor, he may listen.

Thank you for your insight. I may reach out to the owner. I admire much of what he has done, as well as the transparency he offers in the "About" section regarding his approach. Based on the variety of escorts he has attracted who do not advertise elsewhere he may be on to something. It appears that he wants to prevent escorts from being voluntarily explicit and avoid boxing escorts into offering information that may not be relevant to their services. I'd personally like to see height, weight and something that indicates their demeanor. I guess he can't force them to provide descriptive headings and text.

Mintboys seems to be attracting Backpage-type providers -- some average guys testing the waters in a low-key fashion. It's not consistent throughout the site, but they now identify as listing "Popular Gay Escorts & Male Escorts." There are getting to be a lot of ads specifying "Meets: Women." A search feature would be helpful.

I like Mintboys business model. Hopefully they will be able to connect companionship seekers directly with the providers without the middlemen, traffickers etc. Amateurs who want be occasional providers can do so without too much $ investment. Also their model avoids fakes we get dime a dozen on RM. More power to the founder as long as he manages to keep it classy, real, and audience friendly.

I noticed the following disclaimer on mintboy ads...

Disclaimer

Male escorts can be hired for dating or entertainment. Sex is not guaranteed, and you cannot explicitly pay for sex. You are paying for the escort's time only.

So if you a hire a mintboy “escort” and only end up having a nice hourlong chat on world politics, you would have the right to be disappointed there was no sex, but no right to complain, or write a negative review.

Sure. We all use that kind of disclaimer. I hope you are the judge if we get in trouble, as you seem to take it so seriously.

Thank you for facilitating this reply. I think it's great that Kilborn is open-minded and is adapting his model to reach communities beyond his original vision. I look forward to seeing a search/filter feature and any other features that might help providers and clients alike.

Absolutely. Besides standing up and speaking out for a huge number of sex workers that are usually looked down in these forums.

We also have to consider that whether or not we like it, the "gay" label is getting outdated. I like it, it is the biggest achievement of the gay liberation movement.
