Working Military Guy Using Base Email!

No joke, I feel as if I'm missing something and actually might be.

I'm working with a hot military guy on setting up a meeting. This is a result of a craigslist contact. It appears that the guy is setting up this meeting using his military email account.

The email domain is navy.mil and after what appears to be his real name is a series of information about his rank and base. He even sent me his nude pics from this account.

I would think he is taking a huge risk considering our military stance on gays. Is he looking for a dishonorable discharge or simply doesn't care if he is found out?

Needless to say I'm going to meet with him. He seems very legit and is so fucking hot :)

He's definitely taking a huge risk. Why don't you do him a kindness and suggest he get an anonymous e-mail account on Hotmail or Yahoo or something like that to protect himself?

Probably just dumb as a box of rocks about how email works. (Most people are!) He's definitely begging for a "conduct unbecoming" charge.

I agree with Tri -- you should suggest he get a gmail or hotmail account.

And have fun!

That navy.mil email is basically the same as a work email. I tell you, I didn't wouldn't send nude pics of myself through work email.

In terms of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, the only good thing about that policy is that it privates military people from having to take a dishonorable discharge. Thats because under the previous policy, soldiers had to say if they were gay when they enlisted. If it was found out that you are gay, then you basically lied. Now they don't ask. Too bad we can't get rid of that whole gay ban though :(

doesn't matter how great a relationship he has with his CO if he is found using his work email. cuncur with the others, suggest he get a web based personal email. then worry about all the email backups that have copies of his previous emails and pics. ouch.

And even if his CO is "cool with it", he's putting his CO in danger as well.

So, back to the dumb as a box of rocks thing.... :+

Another ugly possiblity is it's a bunch of homophobe sailors (or even just one) looking to set up a good ole fag bashing.

I'd prefer the dumb theory.

Perhaps he's on his way toward a discharge anyway. I hired a navy guy who didn't quite go as far as your guy (no ".mil" emails), but he was not shy about telling me he was active duty (and it was apparent that I might have known people he knew). I think he advertised that he was active duty for a while. The guy I'm describing was on his way out, with a discharge that had been delayed somewhat by the Iraq war extensions of tours of duty.

Yummmm! This brings back memories from four years ago. :9 The best sexbud I ever had was an active duty Army ranger. He fought for our freedoms by day, and he enjoyed our freedoms by night. }(

We had two months of fun, then he was transferred. I have no idea where he is, but I'm sure he has been in some hell-on-earth firefights since he left. I miss his ass. What a bottom those special forces studs can be. Whew!

It is a very bad idea for anybody, *especially him*, to be using his work account, but web-based email might not be any safer if he's using it on a government computer *or* through a government network. Most web-based email accounts don't seem to use encryption after logon, so the content could easily be monitored. Even if it was encrypted your employer has the legal right to install a keylogger on "your" local computer and would thus know anything you typed. Further, even if there isn't snooping into the content of the email (which one would hope there is on any email traffic leaving a military computer, to check for classified information...) there could easily be logging of *websites visited* so going to adam4adam, men4sexnow, etc would be bad...

A good relationship with the CO doesn't matter, anybody in IT could be doing it, potentially even somebody from outside his base could eventually review any logs generated.

Maybe a horny dumb guy doesn't think of any of this, but the warning that some bigoted idiots are setting up a fag-bashing might also be an explanation...

All that said there's probably the feeling that they need so much meat for the grinder that they aren't discharging an otherwise good soldier for this BS anymore (or some soldiers would welcome such a, ahem, discharge), but the problem with that is down the road when they're not desperate, maybe they dig it up when he's on disability for an injury...

It's widely believed that they'll have to abandon don't ask if they move any closer to a draft, being gay's now easier and more socially accepted then running to Canada... But until that's official keep in mind that they overlooked people honestly reporting their sexuality during Vietnam, unless that person, even though a model soldier, tried to make a career out of it after Vietnam, sometimes as late as right before they would be eligible for a pension.

I meet with him tonight and will try to find out why he uses the base email. I'm sure some of you are curious so I'll let you know his response.
