In Prague now. I come twice a year for 10 days to 2 weeks. For the guys.

Czechs are similar to Poles and Russians. The language, food, looks, etc are very close.

Hungarians and Finns are Magyars. Totally different languages and people.

Ditto Germans.

I was in Prague in early winter and like Budapest I found it depressing. I'm sure in the spring, summer and probably fall it would be lovely. I could see potential in Prague but I intensely disliked Budapest with all its depressing 1950 style Soviet architecture.

I think the Parliament Building in Budapest is prettier than the one in London.

I lived in Prague for 4 years. It is indeed a wonderful city, with beautiful buildings and sites, a true jewel of Baroque and Art Deco architecture. It was spared from destruction during WW2 because it was occupied by the Nazis since day one. The only bomb that fell in the city was accidentally dropped in 1945 by Allied planes, who were on their way to wipe Dresden off the map.

I agree that the Czechs can seem unpleasant when you first meet them but, once you get to know them, they are very nice people, especially if you try to say a few things in their truly impossible language. One should understand that their society is very homogeneous and they sort of instinctively mistrust foreigners: after all, throughout their history they have been subdued and oppressed by their powerful neighbors, be it Germans, Austrians, or Russians.

And then, the boys are gorgeous. I miss Prague.

I have visited Prague twice and have liked the city both times. ...hope to go back someday to recap some of the previous adventures, enjoy the culture and the people and to recall the past in many ways!

I have visited Prague twice and have liked the city itself. ...did not really and truly meet the people; thus I can't judge, but overall I had positive experiences and yearn to return one of these days while I am still able to travel near and far!

Last time I was in Prague, I saw plenty of breathtakingly hot guys. I just wish flying wasn't such a chore, or I'd be visiting more often.

Prague is gorgeous. As noted, it is one of the few major cities that was spared from bombing during WWII. Therefore many of its stellar buildings are totally intact. The people are really beautiful. The only problems I had 1) I walked pretty much everywhere and many of the streets were cobblestone (yowee!!) and 2) not a fan of the food.

I don’t think that Finns would consider themselves Magyars. While their languages are Finno-Ugric, they’re different ethnically.

If you stay in Pest near the river or in the Old Town in Buda, you’ll avoid most of the Socialist Realism stuff, although I find Stalin’s neo-Gothic Seven Sisters quite impressive.

Im sitting in UpandDown bar in Prague right now. Sat nights the guys are with the gf's. Today there was a Harley Davidson motocycle festival on Wen. Sq. With country music blaring and 1000 hogs roaring.Czechs also live for ice hockey and body building. Porn is a huge business. Almost all Czechs are atheists. Czech goulash is better than Hungarian. Everyone seems to have green eyes. They hate Germany but love Switzerland and Austria even though theyre all German. They understand Polish and Russian easily.

Czechs are unique.

I loved Vienna and would like, some day, to go back to Prague BUT I have no desire to ever visit Budapest again. I guess I'm just weird, I have several friends who loved Budapest and I'm aware that the whole world loves Barcelona while I on the other hand hate it.

I've never been to Barcelona but it would not be high on my list of places to visit. I think the Sagrada Familia church is ugly!

Austria is equally beautiful even though they had to restore so much after WWII. I can certainly understand why the Czechs may not be all warm and fuzzy toward Germany.

It's not just WWII. Czechs were a 2/3 majority of the population in Bohemia and Monrovia but were ruled by the German 1/3 for hundreds of years. But today its the German traits of efficiency and hard work that irritate Czechs as it does many. Czechs believe in neither.

And there were bombings of Prague. Probably by the Russians. Theres a new building going up next to the Jalta hotel with photos of bombed buildings on Wenselaus Square in 1945 on the fence. Saw it today. The Jalta was built on one of those bombed sites in 1953. I'm staying in the Jalta now.

thanks @tassojunior for the travel comments....practical observations like these are really helpful over tired travel guides and scripted history recitation....looked up your hotel and they even have a "Cold War Package" special offer!......

It has a huge bomb shelter in the basement with clinic to protect communist officials in an a bomb attack.

I wasn’t terribly fond of Budapest, either. I also prefer Madrid to Barcelona. Vienna is great, but I know Salzburg very well.
