There is an immersive show in New York called Life and Trust. I highly recommend it, although it is a show that gets better on your second or third visit after you understand more of the plot. Just leave them in your room. I’ve never seen a housekeeping cart with a stack of card keys. If I was a housekeeper planning on returning the left keys to the front desk, I would keep them in my cart as I cleaned. If I was a housekeeper looking to get the job done as fast as possible, I would put the card keys in the trash and never think about them again. Considering you usually have to walk past or near the front desk to exit the hotel, just return the keys to the front desk and then enjoy your plastic straw knowing you did a little (the bare minimum?) to save the world.

While I don’t always check out, I try to return the plastic key cards to the front desk so they can be reused. Its the least I can do to reduce plastic waste.
