  2. Many hotels used to have "Day Rooms" if they had open rooms empty during the day. That means they are not always available. More likely to find during the slow season or away from busy tourist areas. People not only took them for discreet liaisons but also business purpose or for resting and washing up before leavening to go somewhere, day trips, long layovers between flights among other reasons. The key was always discretion when it was two people going up to the room or leaving. Nowadays most hotels in the US have self-checkout done on cell phone app or online and dropping the keycard in a designated box at the counter. Front Dest personnel hardly look up to say "Self-Checkout? OK, have a good day!".
