Ralph’s letters to Monty, written during the war, are some of the most loving written between gay lovers. Ralph really did love the older Monty.

Harry was a gay man who befriended E M Forster and Joe Ackerley. It was Harry who introduced fellow policeman Bob Buckingham to Forster. He was on the periphery of the Bloomsbury Set, and was also friendly with several of it’s members. He was painted by Duncan Grant, and wrote his autobiography, called “This Small Cloud”. The picture above was taken by Monty Glover.
