  1. My impression is that one rarely gets the full value of gold once it's been made into jewelry. Somehow that's different than just walking in with bullion or Krugerrand. I'm open to be corrected. But yes, shopping around would be a great idea in this case. Kevin Slater
  2. However, if the fixed component does bump up, over the long haul a bond bought in May will be worth more than one bought in April, despite having a lower upfront nominal rate. Kevin Slater
  3. Last year, they annoyingly sent 12 Ibonds totaling 5k for my refund. This year I received a single 5k bond. Improvement. Kevin Slater
  4. My understanding that the ticket is controlled by the name on the itinerary, not the purchaser. He can change or cancel the flight and redirect the purchase dollars as he wishes, especially as most airlines have waived the fees for doing so post covid. My only thought is you could call the airline claiming to be the ticketed passenger-- how would they know? Not sure what that does to protect your expense, tho, as those dollars would likely have to be used on travel by someone with the same ticketed name (or not, depending on the airline). Kevin Slater
  5. Yeah, I don’t care if they want their name to be Mathilda. I just ask that they pick one name and stick to it. Anthony Babcock
  6. That is my understanding. Kevin Slater
  7. Annoyingly, the article is behind a paywall (or at least I have to sign up or something). But I'll take the gist you guys provided. By late April we'll probably have a better idea of what the new rates may be (at least the variable component-- not sure if the fixed is a simple calculation), and can decide at that point whether to purchase before or after May 1. Kevin Slater
  8. Whenever I give or, more likely, call to ask for a tax ID and date of inception (for estate planning), I always follow through with "and I don't care to be added to any mailings lists, please." So far that's worked well. Kevin Slater
  9. I think the thing with affording plastic surgery is that you have to keep a stiff upper lip. Kevin Slater
  10. My first blush is this all sounds very controlling. Not the kind of relaxed scene that works well with multiple providers. Just my opinion from the other side of the equation. Kevin Slater
  11. Part of the deal has him staying on as spokesperson. Kevin Slater
  12. You've also posted in another thread that you do the findom thing. Rather than test both ends of the spectrum, why not just pay for services rendered? Kevin Slater
  13. May all your problems be so happy. Kevin Slater
  14. Well played. Kevin Slater
  15. Kevin Slater knows no such thing. Kevin Slater
  16. ...and by 6 am (East Coast) they're already flat to negative. Kevin Slater
  17. Brent Crude. Seems like someone should have taken it already. Kevin Slater
  18. My read is that it's less about losing the customer than losing the cash at this particular moment. SVB was simply a run on the bank. Kevin Slater
  19. The NY Times reports today that 87% (I think it was) of all assets held at the bank were above the 250k insurance limit. Kevin Slater
  20. Nah, it was even worse. Kevin Slater
  21. Good luck with that. Kevin Slater
  22. A rentmen user name is hardly a good identifier of a client-- it's easily changed. Any of the more useful identifiers (e.g. phone numbers) would violate the rules of this site. Personally, if someone starts repeating questions he's asked before, I tell him we'll need a deposit to keep the chat going. And I would never travel for a new client without a deposit. All that being said, if you still did want to discuss clients by rentmen user name, that may be a good question to ask in the Ask a Moderator forum. Kevin Slater
  23. Depends where I am at the time. Kevin Slater
  24. I feel attacked. Kevin Slater
  25. Thanks for posting! An interesting read. Kevin Slater
