A friend strongly recommended An American in Paris. Gene Kelly, with Leslie Caron and Oscar Levant.
Streamed it on Amazon Prime.
Would love to see it in a theater.
Lot of talent went into this one. So good. The dancing!
Best Picture 1951.

Inconsequential Spoiler
By today's standards it's tame, but I wondered if the censors were kept busy, and sounds like yes, with the female costumes.
It is not a gay movie but there might be some very brief gay content slipped in there. Gay Paris! And the choreography during one or two scenes was slightly erotic, by 1951 standards. Check Gene Kelly's ass! The bromance between the Oscar Levant/Gene Kelly characters seemed headed for a stage kiss, but the fade out beat them to it. I expect Gene Kelly and Oscar Levant might have wanted that in, or maybe that's just my wishful thinking.
