The last time I celebrated my birthday was in 1999. I took my father and step-mother out to a steak house. I paid for it. I insisted on sitting opposite my father. My step-mother was not happy but I told her since I was paying for it I got to choose the sitting arrangements. My father died the following year before my next birthday. I would have preferred to be alone with my father but by step-mother would never allow it. One year she brought her youngest son with them. Of course I never got any gifts.
