PS: I know the link from Avalon is to a gay web site, but similar articles appeared in Hello Magazine, the Mirror, the Sun, the Metro, the Evening Standard newspapers, the BBC website etc.

Depends if it is net of taxes. If it is: Rent for one bedroom apartment: $40,000 per year. Food, electricity, clothing, subway, etc. Less than $40,000? Sure you can manage to stay well below that. Of course if you go to restaurants, drink and go clubbing regularly, then it will be a struggle. If that is not net of taxes, these $80k are probably not enough to be confortable and also save something every year.
