I've never had an issue in hotels, and agree with @nycman hotels have "seen it all". Oliver. The Northeast corridor is an obvious choice. There is great train service between Boston NYC and Washington DC. I realize these are not smaller markets but each one is a “hub” to smaller local markets. For example Portland Maine provincetown Hartford CT and Albany NY are all pretty easy to reach from Boston.
