  1. "There are two things that people will always pay for: food and sex. I wasn't any good at cooking" – Madame Claude
  2. Home video release is set for Dec. 15th, I've preordered the Bluray. I went to see it in IMAX a third time, and came away feeling like there is plenty of 'why' in the story, not just 'how', so I'd say it's made for repeat viewing.

  7. I saw it, and I'm going to see it again. It definitely requires you pay attention if you want to have any hope to understand what is going on. If not, you just have to enjoy the action sequences. Almost all the negative reviews I've seen so far take the position that an audience shouldn't have to think. Just to give you an idea how challenging it is to grasp, every single review I've seen (that goes into actual details) has gotten specific things wrong about what happened, even the wikipedia plot summary had incorrect details when I looked. The only thing that has everything right (that I've seen) is a pinned thread over at the Tenet subreddit.

  9. Turns out there is a backstory on that... D. Zucker: The most amazing thing is the way Eisner handled the situation. We had this meeting with him on Friday where we really put our foot down, and we explained why it was correct to have this thing on a prop plane and in black and white.” And he listened very politely, and when we were done, he said, “Well, you’ve stated your case very well. In fact, you may be right, and you may go on to make this movie in black and white and on a prop plane, and it may be very successful. But it won’t be at this studio.” That’s what he said. And so there’s this silence, and then I think he broke it. He said, “Why don’t you guys think it over, and then we’ll talk again on Monday.” He was so good at handling us. Of course, on Monday, we said, “Okay, we’re fine.” Surely you can’t be serious: An oral history of Airplane!

  11. I've been so disappointed by so many shows, so it's been delightful to watch this one, it's really so good.
  12. The conversations with my straight friends give me serious flashbacks to the weird rationalization conversations with gay friends in the pre-HAART days, with the same kind of odd blind spots. Recently a friend who refuses to eat any restaurant food told me about a party he had at his house. !?!?!

  15. I am looking very much forward to this, the director Denis Villeneuve has a lot of good will in my book, so cautiously optimistic. It's a two parter, so Feyd may be coming later.
  16. One of the more thought provoking genre films. After I saw it, I watched it again with a couple of friends, one of whom is one of those people who likes to predict the ending. He didn't.
  17. I'm not familiar with the comic book version of the characters, so the trailer promised over the top chaotic action and the movie delivers. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I actually went to see it in theaters before the shutdown since an R rating usually means there will be fewer annoying brats in the audience.
  18. Now available to stream in the US on Amazon Prime.
  19. Now releasing Sept 3 "where theaters are open". Technically not in my state yet.
  20. It may be the issue I described here: https://www.companyofmen.org/threads/getting-logged-out.153429/#post-1840125
  21. https://rent.men/Wolvey I think the face and scalp tattoos are new, I don't remember them from before.
