  1. Let's think this through together.

    More than likely the maids only come to the room once. Some providers will ask for extra sheets or take extra sheets. Some providers will lay down towels. Some are ok with neither.

    Unless you are getting a hotel room for the provider for just you and him. Also it's a hotel room room, provider or non provider people have done things in that bed regardless of new or dirty sheets.

    It's sort of the elephant in the room. Hotel rooms can run hunderd to several hundred a night. On top of a provider If you are only going for an hour appointment. That will most likely only cover travel and hotel costs for a provider. More than likely they will have to see multi clients or have multi hour bookings to cover their costs and make it worth it to tour your city.

    A non-denial denial.

  2. There is data on this.

    For one....think about those cards the state ( at least the CA DMV) sends out showing how many drinks an hour you metabolize based on body weight. Lose substantial weight...less alcohol metabolized by your smaller over same period of time.

    Some weight lost (depending on your procedure) is based on "malabsorption", i.e. Your modified stomach/intestine doesn't absorb foods and nutrients from food as effectively.You lose weight because of this. But that affects alcohol too, less time for it to get metabolized as it used to.

    I stated above that palate/tastes can change post surgery. That could include alcohol. I rarely drank white wine prior to my surgery. 6 months after I had to have chardonnnay and Sauvignon Blanc in the fridge at all times. ;)

    And, of course as mentioned in a posting above, a new addiction could easily replace the food addiction. Alcohol included.

    Thank you. I hadn't made the connection between an RNY and alcohol absorption rates.

    Your desire for white wines post-op is really fascinating.

  3. Damn Benjamin I'm impressed. It would be interested to know just how many posters around here know who Dorothy Parker was let alone know to what your post referred. Nice job!

    I, too, know who she is. The following is one of my favorites:

    Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,

    A medley of extemporanea;

    And love is a thing that can never go wrong;

    And I am Marie of Romania.

  4. The problem with going above 5000k is that everything becomes blue-ish. It's a harsh, unflattering light.

    Good for reading, yes, but it makes a room look like a doctor's office.

    Yes, @Benjamin_Nicholas, good lighting for the library can be bad for the boudoir.

    Isn't there a pithy quote by a Hollywood star about being able to act forever if one has a good lighting director?

  5. From previous posts, @BasketBaller, I gather you loved your wife, and may have enjoyed being an empty nester with her. Yet, life being life, you get to try out that role on your own. I'm excited for you. Unlimited possibilities await you.

    You're only getting a temporary break from your sons. Enjoy it while you can. The boys will be back before you know it.

  6. One final quibble... in the episode before the finale, any find it odd that the White Walkers just happened to have miles and miles and miles of chain with them? I mean, enough enormous chains to pull a huge fucking dead dragon up from the bottom of a lake? I mean, they walk everywhere. Not like it was in someone's pocket.

    We laughed about the appearance of the chain as well, wondering if the Night King sent a couple of runners in a box truck to the nearest Home Depot.

  7. What was your favorite moment from last night's season finale?

    Mine was the bait and switch with Littlefinger. I couldn't imagine the Starks turning on one another, but they had me going there for a while. It was such sweet relief when Sansa said, "How do you answer these charges...Lord Baelish?"

    The way Arya slit Littlefinger's throat was awesome. That scene definitely made up for the weakly scripted confrontation between the Greyjoys.

  8. Buck was apparently hooked on Meth himself. No big surprise. The only reason this is making the news at all is because of who he is.

    The biggest thing we learn in NA is about accepting responsibility.

    Does NA teach victim blaming as well?

    At the risk of also being accused of blaming the victim, the article referenced by @caliguy makes clear both Gemmel Moore and Damar Love visited Ed Buck's apartment on more than one occasion, knowing full well Mr. Buck used drugs and forced drug use on others. Mr. Buck's actions are reprehensible, but Messrs. Moore and Love are responsible for placing themselves in harm's way.

  9.

    I find it difficult to believe many 26-year-olds are unaware of meth.

    I misread your original post: "Gemmel Moore wrote in a journal that this person introduced him to the drugs." I thought you had typed, "…introduced him to drugs." My error caused my skepticism.

    The journal does paint a distressing portrait of a man lost in addiction.

  10. Gemmel Moore wrote in a journal that this person introduced him to the drugs. He went from zero to injection which is quite the leap as far as amphetamines go.

    It's almost as big a leap as believing Gemmel Moore knew nothing about drugs before he met Ed Buck. Still, in the spirit of fairness, where might one find a copy of Mr. Moore's journal implicating Mr. Buck?
