  5. Luchino Visconti (1906-1979), born into a prominent noble family in Milan, was an Italian theatre, opera and cinema director, as well as a screenwriter. He is best known for his films Ossessione (1943), Senso (1954), Rocco and His Brothers (1960), The Leopard (1963), The Damned (1969) and Death in Venice (1971). Visconti made no secret of his homosexuality; his lovers included Franco Zeffirelli (who worked as part of the crew on several Visconti films) and Helmut Berger, who starred in his film The Damned. Here, in a picture taken by Horst P. Horst in 1936, he is age 30:

  8. I see what you mean, TBT -- also, a little bit, in the image below --but, yes, it's Mineo. http://images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/33500000/Fortune-Mens-Eyes-sal-mineo-33559543-729-960.jpg

  14. In 1969, his film career in eclipse, Sal Mineo directed a production of the controversial prison drama Fortune and Men's Eyes at the Coronet Theater in Los Angeles. Mineo (then 30) played Rocky, and cast the then-unknown Don Johnson (a few weeks past his 19th birthday, a year before his first film role) in the lead role of Smitty, a young man sentenced to six months in prison for marijuana possession. (Three years earlier--in 1966--Dustin Hoffman had workshopped the play at the New York Actors Studio, taking the role of Rocky with Jon Voight as Smitty. Two years after Mineo's production--in 1971--Fortune and Men's Eyes was filmed with Wendell Burton as Smitty and Zooey Hall was Rocky.) Sal Mineo's 1969 production, with male nudity and a prison rape scene, received positive reviews, although the expanded rape scene (below) was criticized as excessive and gratuitous. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7ggedaWeKPs/TgS1y-1bt1I/AAAAAAAALZA/W8jWbsIimJ8/s1600/time.png http://images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/33500000/Fortune-Mens-Eyes-sal-mineo-33559485-960-621.jpg

  19. Last month, @poolboy48220 mentioned Mindhunter in a thread about shows worth binge watching on Netflix. I missed his suggestion at the time, but the show was subsequently recommended to me by a friend. I don't see a separate thread on it, so this is to call more attention to it now that I've seen the entire 10-episode first season and can give it a thumbs-up. Mindhunter is set in 1977 – the early days of the FBI beginning to use criminal psychology and develop methods of criminal profiling. The main characters are two FBI agents played by Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany.
