  1. It smells sort of like candy.
  2. They're supposed to be very unhealthful. Burning the volatile oils creates a toxic residue that settles on everything. Nonetheless, I like bayberry scented candles.
  3. His profile sounds pretty adventurous.
  4. I'm not much of a snuggler. Speaking of Germany, the Germans all sleep under those featherbeds. I found them intolerably warm. Whenever I went home with a German guy, after he fell asleep, I would slip out of bed and go home so i could get a decent nights sleep.
  5. I don't know - Germany in the fall is quite a place - wine festivals, harvest festivals, fireworks, Oktoberfest, fall color, nice weather during the day, chilly at night.
  6. I've I tried hard, I might be able to. But what's the point?
  7. I have never been sure how close his association with Hitler was. But it always comes up whenever his name comes up.
  8. One of the things he concerned himself with was language and how our use of language affects how we live and who we are. A large part of the reason you are the person you are and you have the life you have is the way you talk about yourself and your life. There was quite a bit of interest in him in the late 70s-early 80s.
  9. carrots, broccoli, green beans, cucumbers, salad greens, red bell peppers, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams
  10. I enjoy the occasional vegan meal and if I have a vegetarian or a vegan over to dinner, I'm fine with planning the entire meal around what they need, but I'm the same way - a confirmed omnivore.
  11. I had to deposit the previous day's receipts at the merchant's window in the B of A branch adjacent to the vault. One time I was counting my money after getting back from the bank and I had $500.00 too much. I counted and recounted because I couldn't believe a merchant teller would make that kind of error, but she had. I went back over with the $500.00 and tried to be as discreet as possible because I knew she could get in trouble. She refused to believe that she had given me $500.00 too much. I said "I'm telling you, this is your money. I have $500.00 too much." It turned out she had made a $500.00 error and got written up for it.
  12. There are always tradeoffs to be made when you're trying to substitute something else for what you are used to. It is unrealistic to expect it to be exactly like or "just as good as" the original. The question is "Is it good enough?" If it isn't, it isn't.
  13. It's called "Better than Milk." I found it on Amazon.
  14. Fortunately, you can also buy them. Some places have oatmilk. I don't see the point of it though - it's just the starch from oats, without much protein or other nutrition. I went without dairy for a year or so and there was this stuff I bought that was powdered tofu - I don't remember the brand. You mixed it with water to make a soymilk. I liked it a lot better than soy milk.
  15. My very first job when I moved to San Francisco nearly thirty years ago was managing a a small walk-up cafe right in front of BofA's main vault at Market and VanNess. Almost all of our business came from vault employees. They told me about the strict security and how easy it was to get fired. Didn't sound desirable to me at all.
  16. I was first introduced to Monopoly by the girl who lived next door. We were regular playmates. I think I was about 7 yo. She had a very old set, maybe from the 1930s-40s. They didn't have the metal playing pieces then. The houses and hotels were wood and the playing pieces were generic playing pieces in different colors of plastic.
  17. I eat lots of chicken, some fish, some meat, almost no dairy, lots of vegetables, a little fruit. Carb sources are mostly tubers, legumes and rice. Eat some whole grain bread from time to time, and I have a rare dessert. I eat egg whites but no yolks. Eating this way, my weight manages itself.
  18. It's very easy to make your own nut milks. For cashew milk, you start with raw cashews, grind them fairly fine in a food processor. You don't want to grind them so fine that they turn into cashew butter. Pour boiling water over the ground nuts, strain thru cheez cloth. There you have it. Almond milk and coconut milk work the same way.
  19. I use those spreads too. The fat profile is supposed to be very healthful, unlike conventional margarines. I tried a new one this week that I really like: Pureblends avocado oil buttery spread. 60 calories/tbsp. very tasty. I don't make a religion out of them though. Sometimes for variety's sake we use real butter for a week or two.

I just read that Aveda discontinued my favorite soap - their "refreshing, cleansing bar." My next favorite is Yardley Oatmeal Almond soap. And of course, there's always Neutrogena.
  21. That doesn sound like much for a big guy.
  22. What is vegan butter-another name for margarine?
  23. I'm on a cutting diet - I had poached chicken breast and baked sweet potato.
  24. What happened? It didn't take.
  25. Isn't using pictograms REALLY dumbing down? Or perhaps it's just very efficient.
