  1. Published by BANG Showbiz English Ryan Murphy wants to make “the invisible [and] the unloved” into the “heroes” he never used to see. The ‘Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’ producer was honoured at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards with the Carol Burnett Award – which honours those who have had a lasting impact on the TV industry – and used his speech on Tuesday (10.01.23) to praise the LGBT+ stars he has worked with in his career, including Matt Bomer, Niecy Nash, and Billy Porter. He said: “I have dedicated most of my lifetime achievement speech here tonight to these wonderful actors I worked with to make a point of hope and progress. “When I was a young person at home in the ’70s watching ‘The Carol Burnett Show’, I never, ever saw a person like me getting an award or even being a character on a TV show. “It’s hard being an LGBTQ kid. In fact, all over the world then, and now. And I have one word for you – Florida. “You are often told you will never become anything, you have to hide your light to survive. But for those kids watching, tonight I offer up Mj and Billy and Niecy and Matt and Jeremy as examples of possibility. “There is a way forward. Use them as your north stars. For 25 years, that’s all I’ve ever tried to do here. My mission was to take the invisible, the unloved, and make them the heroes I long to see but never did in pop culture.” Ryan kicked off his speech by urging the audience at the Beverly Hilton hotel to give a standing ovation to ‘Pose’ star Mj Rodriguez, who made history last year by becoming the first transgender star to win a Golden Globe during last year’s untelevised ceremony. He said: “Here’s how I’d like to start. A year ago, the Golden Globes weren’t televised, but the show did go on. And I was so thrilled when it was announced that Mj Rodriguez, from my show, ‘Pose’, had been awarded Best Actress in a Drama Series. In doing so, Mj from Newark, New Jersey, became the first trans actress ever to win a Golden Globe. “And I thought, ‘Wow, how I would have loved for Mj to be on this stage getting the standing ovation she deserved for making history. “And I’m thrilled to say that Mj is one of my guests tonight. She’s here at my table so, Mj, please stand up and let’s give her the ovation that she deserves.” View the full article
  2. Published by Reuters By Lisa Richwine and Danielle Broadway BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (Reuters) -“The Fabelmans,” Steven Spielberg’s movie inspired by his teen years, and dark comedy “The Banshees of Inisherin” landed the top movie awards at the Golden Globes on Tuesday as Hollywood returned to a show that had been knocked off television by scandal. “The Fabelmans” was named best movie drama at the star-studded ceremony in Beverly Hills. “Banshees of Inisherin,” the story of feuding friends on an Irish island, won best movie musical or comedy. The honors are likely to give both movies a boost on the road to the Academy Awards in March. Spielberg, who also won best director, based “The Fabelmans” on his real life as a teenager dealing with his parents’ marital struggles and anti-Semitism. He said he had been “hiding this story since I was 17.” “When I turned 74 years old, I decided you better do it now,” he said. “I’m really happy I did.” Celebrities and broadcaster NBC had abandoned the 2022 Globes because of ethical wrongdoings at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the group that hands out the awards. The future of the Globes was thrown into doubt after a 2021 Los Angeles Times investigation revealed the organization had no Black journalists in its ranks. Some members were accused of making sexist and racist remarks and soliciting favors from celebrities and movie studios. A larger, more diverse membership and other changes by the HFPA persuaded many of the biggest movie and TV stars to support this year’s ceremony, which provides publicity for winners and nominees and often boosts their chances at the Oscars. The show unfolded largely as it had in years past, except for a biting monologue from comedian and host Jerrod Carmichael who opened the show joking, “I’m here because I’m black.” “One day you’re making mint tea at home. The next day you’re invited to be the Black face of an embattled white organization,” he said at the ceremony, which was aired live on Comcast Corp’s NBC network and Peacock streaming service. The winners list reflected a wide range of diversity. “Abbott Elementary,” about teachers at a predominantly Black public school, was named best television comedy and received acting trophies for star and creator Quinta Brunson and supporting actor Tyler James Williams. Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh, honored for her leading role in dimension-hopping action movie “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” recalled that said she had been called a “minority” and asked if she could speak English early in her career. Forty years later, “it’s been an amazing journey and incredible fight to be here today, but I think it’s been worth it,” she said. Ryan Murphy, who brought several gay and transgender stories to television, received a lifetime achievement award. Best actor went to Austin Butler for his leading role in “Elvis.” The 31-year-old seemed overwhelmed to accept the honor before an audience of top names in show business. “I’m in this room with all my heroes,” Butler said. “I can’t believe I’m here. Colin Farrell won lead actor in a movie musical or comedy for portraying a farmer trying to repair a soured friendship in “The Banshees of Inisherin.” He thanked fellow cast members including “Jenny the donkey.” The two biggest box office successes of 2022 – “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Top Gun: Maverick” – were shut out. Roughly 200 journalists and others from the international film industry voted on this year’s Globes. Among those voters, nearly 52% are racially and ethnically diverse, including 10% who are Black, according to the HFPA. “Elvis” director Baz Luhrmann told Reuters on the event’s silver carpet that he felt the HFPA had made significant changes and “really walked the walk.” “And we need them,” Luhrmann added, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered theaters and led to a decline in moviegoing. “Us coming together is sending a signal out that it’s OK to come together for movies. That’s a good thing.” Other TV winners included “House of the Dragon,” which earned the best drama prize. “The White Lotus” won best limited series. Comedian Eddie Murphy accepted a lifetime achievement honor and shared his blueprint for success. “Pay your taxes, mind your business and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out of your fucking mouth,” Murphy joked, referring to the actor’s infamous slap of presenter Chris Rock at last year’s Oscars. In a new DC Comics release featuring the Joker, the infamous villain is depicted as being pregnant after he’s hit with a magical spell by superhero Zatanna. 5. Published by Reuters By Danielle Broadway and Lisa Richwine BEVERLY HILLS, California (Reuters) – Following two years of criticism for its lack of diverse membership, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globes ceremony on Tuesday wasted no time putting the controversy in the spotlight. Host and comedian Jerrod Carmichael opened his monologue with a blunt assessment: that he was there because “I’m Black.” “This show, the Golden Globe Awards, did not air last year because the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – which I won’t say that they were a racist organization – but they didn’t have a single Black member until George Floyd died,” Carmichael said. He was referring to the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer in 2020, which sparked nationwide Black Lives Matter protests against police killings and other violence against Black people. The watershed event inspired many organizations to create or reformulate anti-racist and inclusivity policies. In 2021, a Los Angeles Times investigation revealed the association, or HFPA, had no Black journalists in its ranks. Some members were accused of making sexist and racist remarks and soliciting favors from celebrities and movie studios. The HFPA introduced new ethics policies, and expanded and diversified its membership. Among roughly 200 current voters, nearly 52% are racially and ethnically diverse, including 10% who are Black. Carmichael recalled being called by Golden Globes producer Stephen Hill and being asked to host the awards. He jokingly addressed the discomfort of going from drinking mint tea one day to being asked to be the “Black face of a white organization” the next, and said deciding whether to emcee was a “moral and racial dilemma.” However, Carmichael said — with tongue in cheek — Hill assured him the offer was because he’s “talented, charming, and one of the greatest comedians of a generation.” “I took this job assuming that they (HFPA) hadn’t changed at all,” the host said. “I heard they got six new Black members, congrats to them, whatever. Sure. But that’s not why I’m here.” Carmichael said he decided to host because of the talented people in the room that he admires, calling them “incredible artists.” “Regardless of whatever the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s past may be, this is an evening where we get to celebrate, and I think this industry deserves evenings like these. I’m happy you’re here,” he concluded. Among roughly 200 current voters, nearly 52% are racially and ethnically diverse, including 10% who are Black. While Carmichael hit the issue head-on, the list of winners also reflected broad diversity, and many speeches aimed to elevate diverse talent. Television director and producer Ryan Murphy, accepting a lifetime achievement award, highlighted the LGBTQ+ talent in the room. On the silver carpet, this year’s Golden Globe winner for best actress in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” Michelle Yeoh and “Elvis” director Baz Luhrmann also expressed the importance of celebrating all the talented people involved in Golden Globes. “I think it’s important because this is an international Golden Globe, right? It encompasses everybody and that’s something we constantly talk about, inclusivity,” Yeoh said. “So, how can you not include them? What I think happened is that they needed to clean it all up. They needed to wake up to a brighter and more beautiful day.” Yeoh believes that it’s time to move ahead. Luhrmann echoed similar sentiments, saying, “I think the Golden Globes has really walked the walk, not just talked the talk. They’ve made real, significant changes.” “We need them because this is about us all coming together and celebrating the movies,” he added. 9. Published by OK Magazine mega Emily Ratajkowski was seeing Red after watching a resurfaced interview Ellen DeGeneres did with Taylor Swift about her former boyfriends. “This is so f**ked up,” the supermodel, 31, wrote in response to a clip of the 2012 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that has now gone viral on TikTok. “She’s literally begging her to stop.” mega In the clip, the Grammy award winner, now 33, was visibly uncomfortable while sitting in a chair across from DeGeneres as photos of famous men – like Taylor Lautner, Justin Bieber, Joe Jonas and Justin Timberlake – flashed on the screen behind them. ROUGH LANDING: ELLEN DEGENERES HAD TROUBLE GETTING A-LIST GUESTS AFTER MEAN STREAK WAS REVEALED The now-64-year-old asked Swift during the interview to “ring a bell” every time a picture of someone she dated was displayed on the screen. mega The “Bad Blood” vocalist begged Degeneres to stop, telling her she wanted to keep “the one shred of dignity that I have.” “I don’t want to [do it],” Swift pleaded. “They’ll send me angry emails, and I don’t want to get them.” She uncomfortably continued, “Stop it, stop it, stop! This makes me feel so bad about myself. Every time I come up here, you put a different dude up there on the screen, and it just makes me really question what I stand for as a human being.” mega Years after her sit down with Degeneres, the “Anti-Hero” hitmaker addressed how interviewers often reduce her to the men she has dated in the early days of her career. BLINDSIDED: GREYSON CHANCE SAYS ‘MANIPULATIVE’ ELLEN DEGENERES ‘ABANDONED’ HIM “When I was like 23, people were just kind of reducing me to — kind of making slideshows of my dating life and putting people in there that I’d sat next to at a party once and deciding that my songwriting was like a trick rather than a skill and a craft,” she told Apple Beats’ Zane Lowe at the time, though she refrained from mentioning DeGeneres, who ended her long-running show in May 2022 after claims of cultivating a “toxic” workplace environment, by name. “It’s a way to take a woman who is doing her job and succeeding at doing her job and making things, and it’s, in a way, it’s figuring out how to completely minimize that skill,” the artist concluded. Swift has now been dating longtime beau Joe Alwyn since 2017, having managed to keep their relationship on the down low for all these years. As for why she keeps her latest romance out of the public eye, she said in a 2019 interview: “I’ve learned that if I do [talk about the relationship], people think it’s up for discussion, and our relationship isn’t up for discussion.” View the full article
  10. Published by Radar Online mega;@siohvaughnfuncheswade/instagram Dwyane Wade’s ex-wife Siohvaughn has demanded their 15-year-old trans daughter Zaya not be allowed to legally change her name and gender — and RadarOnline.com has obtained the 2011 divorce agreement that she believes will help her win in court. According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Siohvaughn submitted the agreement as part of her opposition to Dwayne’s petition to change their child’s name from Zion Malachi Airamis Wade to Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade. mega In his petition, Dwyane claimed he had the “full authority” to “make decisions on behalf of” Zaya. Back in 2011, he was awarded primary custody of his 2 children. In his new petition, he claimed he did not need Siohvaughn’s permission, but he had notified her. The ex-NBA star and his current wife Gabrielle Union have been supportive of Zaya in her journey. In response, Siohvaughn said she feared Dwyane “may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies.” She claimed to have had dinner with Dwyane in April 2022 where he talked about all the money Zaya could make “in relation to our child’s name and gender issue.” In addition, Siohvaughn said Dwyane needed her approval when it came to decision on Zaya’s health. RadarOnline.com has obtained a copy of the agreement which has a provision about Dwyane notifying his ex-wife about important developments. The provision stated that Dwyane shall discuss with and obtain input from his ex on “the major decisions affecting the care, welfare, activities, health, education, and religious upbringing of their two children.” The agreement does not state he needs permission from Siohvaughn. mega Further, the agreement stated that Dwyane had to keep his ex-informed of “all doctors, nurses, health care providers, and mental health providers treating the minor children whether on a continuing basis or in connection with an isolated issue.” Again, the deal did not state the ex-NBA star had to obtain approval for any medical decision over their children. Dwyane and his ex are scheduled to appear in court later this month. View the full article

  12. Published by Radar Online MEGA Comedian Jerrod Carmichael joked about Tom Cruise and Scientology during a bit while hosting the Golden Globes — right before the Hollywood star’s Maverick co-stars took the stage. On Tuesday, in the middle of the show, Carmichael came out on stage holding three Golden Globes in his hand. He told the audience, “Backstage, I found these three Golden Globe awards that Tom Cruise returned.” Back in 2021, Cruise returned his Golden Globe awards in protest of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. At the time, the HFPA was accused of a lack of diversity and other issues. Carmichael continued, “Look, I’m just the host briefly. I have a pitch. I think maybe we take these three things [the awards] and exchange them for the safe return of Shelly Miscavige. Shelly is the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige. Shelly has been the center of talk for years with ex-Scientologists claiming she was banished to a remote location. Leah Remini even filed a missing person’s report in 2013. The Los Angeles Police Department conducted an investigation and determined Shelly was fine. Shelly’s attorney previously said that “Any reports that [Shelly] is missing are false.” At the time Leah went to the police a rep for the church said, “This is just harassment. It is a publicity stunt cooked up by a small band of unemployed fanatics who live on the fringe of the Internet.” MEGA In response, Remini raised questions about LAPD’s relationship with Scientology. After Carmichael made the joke, the crowd erupted in awkward laughter until Carmichael introduced Cruise’s costars Glen Powell and Jay Ellis. The two actors appeared stunned and unsure how to react to the jokes. MEGA Earlier in the show, Carmichael made light of the HFPA’s controversy. He told the crowd, “I’ll tell you why I’m here. I’m here ’cause I’m Black.” “I’ll catch everyone in the room up,” Carmichael added. “The Golden Globe Awards did not air last year. I won’t say they were a racist organization, but they didn’t have a single Black member until George Floyd died, so do with that information what you will.” View the full article
  13. Published by BANG Showbiz English Steven Spielberg was “really, really happy” to win the Best Director Golden Globe for ‘The Fabelmans’ on Tuesday (10.01.23). The 76-year-old filmmaker triumphed in a hotly-contested category ahead of James Cameron (‘Avatar: The Way of Water’), Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan (‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’), Baz Luhrmann (‘Elvis’), and Martin McDonagh (‘The Banshees of Inisherin’) thanks to his work on the personal movie, a semi-autobiographical tale of his own childhood. He told the audience at The Beverly Hilton hotel in California: “I’m really, really happy about this. “I’ve been hiding from this story since I was 17 years old. I put a lot of things in my way of this story. He continued, “I told this story in parts and parcels all through my career. ‘E.T.’ Has a lot to do with this story. ‘Close Encounters’ has a lot to do with this story. But I never had the courage to hit this story head-on until Tony Kushner [and I] were working on ‘Munich’ a long time ago, [and he] started telling me about all these stories about [his] life. “And we started a conversation. And the conversation lasted all through ‘Munich,’ all through ‘Lincoln’ and ‘West Side Story.’ And my wife Kate was always saying, ‘You have to tell this.’ “ The director explained the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown made him “ready” to tell the story. He continued: “And during COVID, I didn’t know if any of us were going to have the chance to tell any of our stories again in March, April, May of 2020. “Everything I’ve done up to this point has made me ready to finally be honest about the fact that it’s not easy to be a kid. “The fact that everybody sees me as a success story… But nobody really knows who we are until we’re courageous enough to tell everyone who we are. And I spent a lot of time trying to figure out when I could tell that story and I figured out when I turned 74 years old. I said, ‘You better do it now.’ And I’m really, really happy I did.” View the full article

  16. Published by Reuters By Moira Warburton WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Representative Katie Porter on Tuesday launched a campaign for U.S. Senate in California, taking aim at a seat currently held by fellow Democrat Dianne Feinstein, who has not said if she plans seek re-election in 2024. Feinstein, who has held the seat since 1992, has faced pressure to resign given that she is the oldest member of Congress at 89 years old. If she were re-elected, she would be 97 at the end of her six-year term. Porter, 49, is a rising progressive star in the Democratic Party. The former law professor has become a social media sensation for her whiteboards and rapid-fire grilling of powerful bank and drug company executives over issues like compensation. She has championed inflation-based caps for drug prices and making it unlawful to excessively hike gasoline prices. She was a top fundraiser in the House in November’s midterm elections, raising over $25 million to win her competitive district for the third time. “California needs a warrior in the Senate – to stand up to special interests, fight the dangerous imbalance in our economy, and hold so-called leaders like (top Senate Republican) Mitch McConnell accountable for rigging our democracy,” she said in a video posted to Twitter. She made no reference to Feinstein. Feinstein is a trailblazer in U.S. politics: the first woman to serve as mayor of San Francisco, first woman to serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee and now the longest-serving female senator. “Everyone is of course welcome to throw their hat in the ring, and I will make an announcement concerning my plans for 2024 at the appropriate time,” Feinstein said in response to Porter’s announcement. 24. Published by Radar Online mega It has been alleged that conservatives in the Vatican have set out on a “secret plan” to apply pressure on the liberal Pope Francis to force his resignation, RadarOnline.com has learned. Francis, 86, has served as the head of the Catholic church, the Bishop of Rome, and sovereign of Vatican City since 2013, following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI after a child sexual abuse scandal plagued the church. Francis’ reign has been a stark contrast to his predecessor’s. The current head of the Catholic church has been criticized by conservatives and celebrated by liberals for leading the religious establishment in an unprecedented modern direction. Pope Francismega Since 2013, Francis has made shocking statements that ruffled feathers amongst conservative members in Vatican City. The current pope has openly supported gay marriage and same-sex unions, as well as his claim that atheists can still go to heaven. He also stated in the past that he would step down should his health merit the decision; however, it was believed to be an unlikely event while his predecessor was still alive. Potential resignation was believed to be avoided at all costs to prevent three living popes residing at the Vatican at the same time. The alleged “secret plan” to force his resignation was believed to be contrived within the days following Pope Benedict XVI’s death on New Year’s Eve 2022. According to the Italian publicationLa Stampa, a cardinal allegedly told the newspaper that the conservative members are ready to make a move toward the “communist” pope. Pope Benedict XVI mega The anonymous cardinal stated, “The secret plan will be formulated on various axes and phases, but it will have one objective – to place the pontificate under such stress that Francis will have to resign. “The opponents of Francis know that right now they are in a minority, that they will need time to both win a consensus and to weaken [him],” the cardinal’s alleged remarks continued. “The progressive weakening of the Holy Father as well as his doctrinal choices, which will create a great deal of discontent which can be used against him,” the cardinal added. A recent meeting with Francis and an Archbishop fueled rumors that conservatives were working behind the scenes to oust the Bishop of Rome. Funeral services for Pope Benedict XVImega Francis met with Archbishop Georg Gänswein on January 2. Gänswein was a right-hand man to Pope Benedict XVI and served as his secretary for 19 years. The late pope’s former secretary also played a key role in his funeral services.
