  1. I'm not sure it is 100% our fault as the deck is stacked by food industry paying huge sums of money to lobby and influence lawmakers to weaken laws that protect our health. Corporations also fund "research" that favors outcomes that downplay health hazards in products they produce and sell. However, at the end of the day, we decide what we put in our mouth and what we choose to eat. Should we put sugary drinks in schools? Should we have Dominos Pizza provide school lunches? We all pay for the cost in lost productivity and skyrocketing health care costs from sugar laden processed food.
  2. Sweet Revenge Turning the Tables on Processed Food (no vegetarian/vegan propaganda) For years we have been told that type 2 diabetes, liver and heart disease are caused by eating too much--it's all our fault. Dr. Robert H. Lustig explains that the problem is the quality and not the quantity of the food we eat. The real culprit is processed food, loaded with added sugar and stripped of its natural fiber and nutrients. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z-_6JgMiwA
  3. Great Job! There is so much added sugar in all the processed foods we consume. Amazing results from eating whole foods and reducing added sugar consumption. Thanks for feedback on your quest.
  4. Michael Greger M.D. is an awesome dude. He is worth listening to and learning from.
  5. I know, you are tired of hearing this... However, we are all connected and it is so important that we are aware of the impact something that is harmful to our health.
  6. I wonder if kids fed sugary diets are meaner and more difficult to handle?
  7. This is a very interesting article. Essentially, eating processed food is killing our ancestral microbiome. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/how-the-western-diet-has-derailed-our-evolution-1101393416 "When he fed mice a fiber-poor, sugary, Western-like diet, diversity plummeted. (Fiber-starved mice were also meaner and more difficult to handle.) But the losses weren’t permanent. Even after weeks on this junk food-like diet, an animal’s microbial diversity would mostly recover if it began consuming fiber again."
  8. I disagree with your physician. All sugars are not to same. All the fiber in fruit is very beneficial and eating an apple will satiate you much more than a fizzy drink.
  9. Interesting video on how it is manufactured. Yes, you need to wonder if supply is being kept low to drive prices up. There are only three manufactures from what I understand.

  11. Is the World Running Out of Insulin? Shortages Could Leave Millions of Diabetics Without Treatment Millions worldwide may be unable to access the drug by 2030, scientists predict https://www.newsweek.com/world-running-out-insulin-shortages-could-leave-millions-diabetics-without-1229125 https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/nov/20/insulin-shortage-could-affect-40-million-people-with-type-2-diabetes
  12. I have a simple philosophy that helps me determine what food I eat. If I cannot pronounce the ingredient, i.e. aspartame, etc., I don't consume it or buy it. There is growing evidence that the artificial sweeteners are screwing up metabolism. https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2013/07/11/200488420/do-diet-drinks-mess-up-metabolisms http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/32/4/688 Of course, the beverage industry will say no it does not. Just as tobacco industry did with their products. And so it goes.
  13. Show me fact based research that claims we need additional oil in our diet other than what occurs naturally in plants. We simply don't need it. We keep eating refined products that have deleterious impacts on our health. https://ucdintegrativemedicine.com/2015/04/the-good-bad-and-ugly-about-oils/#gs.N4ckJWM The topic of the post is Sugar, BTW.
  14. Actually this "Dude", is a distinguished PhD. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._Colin_Campbell He has published fact based scientific research on how important plant based diets are to our health. Humans are a unique species in that we can decide what we ingest or not. We also have a highly developed brain so we can learn and decide what we put into our bodies.

  16. Actually, I have eliminated any added oils whatsoever. https://nutritionstudies.org/plant-oils-are-not-a-healthy-alternative-to-saturated-fat/
  17. Excellent. Research is showing that artificial sweeteners screw up our body's endocrine system.
  18. Naked juices owned by Pepsi. Way high in sugar. Don't drink them! Eat fruit that is not processed.
  19. Anyone have the pleasure of a session or sessions with Sean Long? https://rentmasseur.com/SEANLONG
  20. This is a great post and the way to eat.
  21. I'm sorry to hear about your diabetes diagnosis. The best advice I can give you is to switch to a plant based diet. Having just watched the video "Fed Up", I don't trust any of the processed food companies. A great book that will help you get on the right track is https://www.amazon.com/Whole-Foods-Diet-Lifesaving-Longevity/dp/1478944919/ref=pd_ybh_a_13?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=TZJQH3EDRD0Z03E1PFVJ Also, if you are an Amazon Prime member, you can watch loads of videos on the benefits of plant based diet on health. I'm also reading
  22. Watched this video last night. It is eye opening. We have our own man made epidemic on our hands and no one has the courage to do anything about it. Sugar is the new tobacco. If you don't believe me, watch the video and present a cogent argument that we don't have a clear and present danger to our health. If a foreign nation did to our children what the food industry is doing to them, we would be at war with the perpetrator for selling poison (sugar) to our kids.
  23. Totally agree. Forks Over Knives is an outstanding way to help people improve their diet.
  24. You and your partner have a great approach to diet.
  25. Just ordered the DVD. Thank you very much for turning me on (LOL - hippie speak) to this.
