1. Also it's a little obnoxious for non-black people to be opining about what Black people want to see and why. Otherwise, what Steven said about art vs. entertainment.
2. Original - Come What May, Moulin Rouge Cover from The King of Masked Singer, MBC, South Korea The male singer (van Gogh) lost and was revealed to be Rockhyun from 100%. I believe the female singer (Klimt) is Heana of Matilda. Anyway, this is what the precursor of which Fox's The Mask Singer is an authorized copy is like.
3. We create our own hells.
4. As a queer cis woman who has only had sex with men, I know you are overgeneralizing and that the stereotypes are disgusting and unhelpful. Also you should tell that to men who have been sexually harassed and assaulted. You are perpetuating stereotypes because it benefits you, which to my mind puts you in the same category.
5. A samoyed in boots.
6. We've all been the porcupine who needs rescuing.
7. You realize I just live to know that you and I agree on something? It's the peak of my day! But I figure that will come out in the normal course of discourse here without the need for an announcement. And your comment about not using store loyalty cards would have clued me in anyway.
8. He is and he has been. He's caused havoc in other threads. His profile isn't currently available, so perhaps he's earned himself another hiatus.
9. Spike Lee should at least have been nominated for Do the Right Thing.
10. And some men, straight gay or bi, are rapists. So? In these days of Jeffrey Epstein, Bill Cosby and Kevin Stacey, privileged men running amok and treating people as objects shouldn't be shocking. That doesn't make it less wrong.
11. Let me put it another way: were both experiences enjoyable?
12. I see that a post linking a report from a questionable website expressing skepticism about his story has been deleted, but in case anyone cares, the assertion that no suspects show up on surveillance cameras is untrue. Local police have released surveillance video of two persons of interest. https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2019/01/31/this-was-racial-homophobic-hate-crime-jussie-smolletts-family-speaks-out-after-alleged-assault/?utm_term=.0438c7cb7653
13. Not at all an apples to apples comparison, but I went to Staples a couple of days into the New Year and they hadn't discounted calendars at all. I wound up buying a mini wall calendar for $8 instead of a full one for $15. So it's not just more sexually explicit calendars.
14. There is something fucked up about a movie whose Black character is the lead being filtered through his interaction with his bigoted white driver. Also the Green Book itself was a publication to guide Black people on what, establishments were open to them to allow them to travel safely through Jim Crow areas. So why does a movie bearing the name of a book to help Blacks avoid interacting with racist white people put a racist white man front and center? As I understand it, Shirley's family objected to the depiction of the relationship between him and his driver as inaccurate. Since that's the focus of the movie, that seems irresponsible. I agree that it's getting love because it has a Black character but leaves White audiences feeling all fuzzy. The whitewashing of history should itself be disqualifying irrespective of technical merits. Same should be true if Dances With Wolves came out now. (To be clear, I'm solely talking about Best Picture and screenplay, not acting or technical awards.)
15. So were the two experiences roughly equal in quality?
16. Except stupidity and the continued belief in gender stereotypes causes actual harm. More like "laugh in lieu of crying," I think. But I appreciate you being the first person to point out the stereotypes and rampant speculation.
17. I think some of whatever advantage men might have is down to mouth size and personal experience on the receiving end.
18. Yes, there are plenty of straight men who care about their partner's pleasure. You have been brainwashed by patriarchal rape culture BS.
19. Your misogyny and bottom shaming is showing. Let me guess. You're a total top.
20. Given how untrustworthy Facebook is, who is going to lust over him? With that out of the way, maybe others aren't seeing what you're seeing.
21. True, but that's not as widespread public knowledge as the purpose for which it had originally been developed. The negative connotation to douche is much more likely to be tied to associations with an organ that is regularly minimized through cutesy slang (pussy) and slang used to demean women (cunt).
22. Choice is not always free, either. Yes, people might have choices, but those choices aren't equally wide for everyone. Basically this attitude condemns some people for impulses we are all privy to. The reason government ameliorates the results of such choices is because it is better for all of us. For example, helping those who abuse drugs, whether they're down and out or well off, helps them be more productive members of society, dampens demand for drugs and reduces collateral consequences like crime and negligent parenting. In terms of return on investment, it is superior to locking up drug users. We need less judgmentalism, not more. That this religion of personal responsibility is often preached by libertarians is particularly galling. Either you're in favor of personal freedom, which includes the right to make bad decisions, or you're not. It's inconsistent to try to have it both ways.
23. He could have been recognized from his TV work. He's fairly well-known and open about being gay in addition to playing a gay character on TV.
24. Also goes to show that sometimes weight is due to a medical issue and that people should stop complimenting people on weight loss that could well be caused by disease. I can tell you from experience that it doesn't feel good to be praised for weight loss that came about because of illness. You're more or less saying being ill was worth it because the person lost weight and minimizing what the person went through to get there. Also research shows that weight rarely stays off. So excuse me for not jumping in to praise Ms. Bates' cancer treatment for making the weight loss that relieves her lymphedema possible.
25. That's not my point. (And douche is misogynistic, not homophobic.) The reasons why the terms are used are homophobic or misogynistic, as the case may be.
