The problem with cruising is that you can't immediately figure out if you're going to hate it. I'm not a fan of the mega-ships... And that's where I started. The ships are chaos. Your fellow pax leave a lot to be desired. It's just not my thing. I settled into really enjoying smaller ships (900 pax and below). Better service. Better food. More interesting ports. You may find you enjoy cruising when it's the right ship/line.

CATS is back. Gird your loins. This version blends LGBT ballroom culture with mostly original arrangements of the long-running British musical. While I was curious to see what they'd end up with, I have seen the near-universal raves for this production. I'm not the biggest fan of the original show, but went in anyway and hoped for the best. What I got was a $300 seat that would have worked a lot better in a gay club versus a legitimate theater. The audience was young and seemed to want to make it about themselves (screaming, popping fans, talking back to the show, etc). The performances aren't truly competitive ballroom and that lack of motivation made things feel slow and unexciting (to me,, at least). The vocals in the show were fantastic, especially when the company was singing as a group. They have the choral arrangements down pat. I just didn't find the gimmicky nature of the show enjoyable. Plus, I loathe when performers break the fourth wall. It reminds me of the awful things they do at theme parks and cruise ships. This show keeps getting extensions, so it's likely to still be running into early Fall. YMMV.

They work, but they don't work well on the actual ship. It's because when connected to the ship's wifi, you're using a sat connection which messes with a phone's ability to precisely figure out where you are. I'd wait until you hit a port and then open Grindr. Works much more efficiently.

Why is CCBC/Palm Springs so Expensive????
+ BenjaminNicholas replied to NipLuvr212's topic in The Travel Desk
It's interesting how an older gay contingent will often overlook a lot of negatives because they're in an 'all-gay' environment. I don't see this as much with younger gay guys. It's a big reason why you don't see a lot of them at the remaining gay B&Bs. While I want to see places like CCBC remain, if they're half-assing it and being run like a coffee klatsch, I can't say I'd be sad to see them go. I saw a lot of this in Key West over the last 15 years: Gay places just stopped trying because their customer base was dying. One by one, they all sold out. -
US Open is fun, but damn this year is gonna be ugly hot. For the money, I'd say that concert season at Forest Hills Stadium is my pick for the Queens stand out.

Agreed that it's not fun, but it's effective in curbing appetite. Most people can't stick to simply eating less and getting exercise. They want the magic pill but with no magic side effects. That's not the way life works. You have to want it bad enough to suffer a bit. It's kinda an important part of the process. That's why the majority of people who lipo away their fat end up gaining it back at some point. None of this is directed toward you: It's just my general feeling on the hack society we now live in.

Sean Costin in NYC taking clients?
+ BenjaminNicholas replied to 30somethingsexybear's topic in The Deli
I would be inclined to agree. If you're going to get something done, keep them guessing as to how you maintain your good looks. A good magician never reveals the trick. -
If you can't say something nice, shut the fuck up by slamming a piece of pizza in your mouth. Who wants anchovy?

Yeah, it's just a lower/upper bleph. This is nothing big. Eyes heal quickly. -
On anyone who's acting like an asshole, yeah.

Ah, this old remedy. I've been about Prep H by multiple friends who practice skincare 'hacks' But I've also had several dermatologists tell me it's not the right consistency, irritating for this particular skin and not to be used under eye or under the brow bone. YMMV.

Funny, charming, updated, witty and exactly what musical comedy should be. Sutton Foster helps carry this show, but not singlehandedly. Basic set, extensive orchestra and an audience who was wonderfully quiet, respectful and appreciative. It's up for 18 weeks. If you can snag a ticket, you won't regret it.

Inflammation is commonly caused by diet and lack of hydration, so yep... Drink more water. Stay away from alcohol if you can. You may have very sensitive skin that's inflamed by certain topicals. Under-eye is especially thin and concerning.

They don't want you. They want us.... Especially in an election year.

Oh, that's gonna be awesome. Congrats and enjoy!

Anybody else finding Grindr aggravating as hell?
+ BenjaminNicholas replied to dutchal's topic in The Lounge
I mean, isn't that always the case with these sorts of things? -
Filler will work as long as the HA is present sub-dermal. That's 9-15 months per treatment. I've seen plenty of upper/lower blephs on men that haven't looked pulled or feminine.
-
Upper and lower bleph. Tear-trough filler for circles. Topicals will help minimally.

I much prefer the volleyball and swimmer guys. They're jacked AND they're tall.

Midnight is selling well, but it's only an 850 seat space. The real trouble is that the reviews on the show have been weak. I hope they can keep working it out. Death has some pretty deep pockets behind it. I think an October opening for the show will help it. The cast will sell it. As with any show, I never want to see performers and creatives out of work.

Looks like Richard Simmons is reincarnated as a escort.
+ BenjaminNicholas replied to + glutes's topic in The Deli
Said it before. Saying it again. Some posts say more about the poster than the person they're trying to put down. -
Unless EJ does some serious work to the music, don't go in expecting a lot. It didn't do well in Chicago for good reason. I feel like the same fate is destined for 'Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil,' currently at the Goodman.

mouthwash after oral sex - what's that?
+ BenjaminNicholas replied to viewing ownly's topic in Questions About Hiring
Mouthwash, especially harsher ones like Listerine, also cause more inflammation on existing micro-cuts in the mouth, as well as on gums. I was always advised NOT to use it before or after oral sex, especially if you're going to swallow. Rinse with water or with a non-alcohol based mouthwash.
