  1. Judy Tenuta is awesome. I remember the first time I saw her: She came out on roller skates, playing the accordion and wearing a wedding dress.
  2. This lamp thankfully had a dimmer slide built into the cord. I've owned it for 10+ years now and have had the dimmer replaced once already. DWR has some nice, lifetime pieces of furniture. My main problem with them at the moment is finding anything on their website that has less than a 6 week lead time. Jonathan Adler has the same issue: I just don't want to wait 6-18 weeks. Patience with furniture is not my strong suit. The Hue system is wonderful. I have my whole home on Hue and voice-controlled with Amazon's Alexa.
  3. Thank you for finding this! It's perfect. The lamp in question: http://www.dwr.com/lighting-floor/spun-floor-lamp/2370.html?lang=en_US#lang=en_US&start=25
  4. Hey... Some here think I'm actually pushing 50. I might as well act like it
  5. You're not crazy: http://www.westinghouselighting.com/color-temperature.aspx I find for me, I'm most comfortable at 3k. It's still warm enough, but verging on getting cool. Fine for reading. Makes art look good. Doesn't wash out skin tones.
  6. I'm sure there are many, but it does sound like a perfect zinger setup from the likes of Dorothy Parker
  7. The problem with going above 5000k is that everything becomes blue-ish. It's a harsh, unflattering light. Good for reading, yes, but it makes a room look like a doctor's office.
  8. Try finding a 200 or 250W bulb. You're more likely to stumble over the body of Jimmy Hoffa. I have a floor lamp that's designed to take a 250W bulb. The original burnt out after nearly 10 years of solid service. Now, it's sitting in the corner with a wimpy '100W equivalent' LED bulb. While the color temp is right, the brightness is just... Lacking.
  9. I thought it was the Holmby Hills house she sold, which has since been demolished and turned into this ugly mess: http://www.latimes.com/business/realestate/hot-property/la-fi-hotprop-100-million-home-sale-los-angeles-20161021-snap-story.html Doesn't she still have the compound in Malibu on Point Dume?
  10. Yes, it is and it's a beautiful small compound. I stayed there last year with a group of friends. The best part about it is that it's been meticulously kept. It's like taking a gigantic step back in time. I once stayed at the Merv Griffin estate in PS. That is a beautiful, expansive property: https://www.luxuryretreats.com/vacation-rentals/united-states/california-desert-cities/la-quinta/the-merv-griffin-estate-114150
  11. I was just identifying those who are synonymous with MCM design on a mass-known level. I totally agree about Neutra's work. He was amazing... As were John Lautner, Purcell, Gruen (and that beautiful bank), A Quincy Jones and others. Palm Springs attracted major talent.
  12. Or one of his many other pen names
  13. You get a genuine smile when you spend time with me ... And those who have can attest to that
  14. When I think mid-century modern, I think of the actual designers who made the movement a classic: Saarinen, George Nelson, Frank Lloyd Wright, Jacobsen, Knoll and Corbusier (among others). These were the artists who created a look that has since survived, thrived and reintroduced itself to a new generation. Palm Springs has been done a fantastic job of not only appreciating it, but respectfully preserving what they have. I admire that... It's not an inexpensive thing to do. Clearly, we differ in what we'd seek for a retirement setting, but if PS floats your boat, I say more power to you
  15. I agree with a lot of what you're saying. The only decent thing (to me) about PS is the architecture: They preserved some beautiful homes and the mid-century modern aesthetic is one I really like.
  16. That's fantastic they overturned it. Just doing some quick research, it seems it was done in 2013. And with that being said and done, I'd own on the Mexican coastline.
  17. In all this talk about retiring to Mexico, do keep in mind that anything (roughly) 65 miles from a border or 35 miles from ocean is considered the restricted zone: A foreigner cannot own, outright, their property and must setup a real estate trust through both a Mexican bank & attorney to hold the title. Those are extra hurdles I'd be unwilling to jump over in figuring out where to invest my nest egg. #NoBueno
  18. I'm a Forest Hills gal myself
  19. Santa Fe is outstanding. Great community, good food, quality medical care, low(ish) cost of living, tons of things to do.

  21. Sure, why not http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/mp/UYFexYOYP15l.jpg
  22. I love Black Mirror: Hauntingly realistic of how we live and what's to come.
  23. Working a strip club seems like a backwards move for him at this point. That's what a guy does when he's on the downward end of the bell-curve. He's smart in how he's selling the product. I'm always fascinated (in a good way) when I see young guys like this who can create and keep the chatter going.
  24. The irony gets so thick here that I feel at times we need swim goggles to navigate
