10 Countries That Completely Hate Gay People
+ BenjaminNicholas replied to + Avalon's topic in The Lounge
Exactly. Most important: Be a smart, aware traveler. Don't let your dick get you in trouble, but also don't let politics sway you from seeing new places. It's no big secret that the rest of the world can function very differently than the United States. If someone is uncomfortable with that fact, it's probably best they stay put. -
If you have nothing to hide, no one can hurt you. And for me, it's worth the money and background check to avoid long lines getting back into the States.

Everyone needs to interview. No one is immediately rejected. Calling yourself a terrorist is a little over the top, don't'cha think? They clearly found something they weren't comfortable with in the background check. If that wasn't the case, perhaps you share a common last name. You can dispute their rejection.

Let me also recommend you look into the Global Entry program. It makes life a lot easier. https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry

10 Countries That Completely Hate Gay People

At the end of the day, it's easier to sit behind a keyboard and wax poetic about the dangers of the world without actually having seen them. I agree with Dave on this: Travel is a privilege... And one that shouldn't be wasted. Keep your eyes open, your head up, but don't let fear keep you from immersing yourself into someplace totally different than what you're used to. At 6'3" and 205lbs, I stand out nearly everywhere I go. I can't help it. Yet, no matter where I've traveled, I've never felt afraid. -

That's fine. It's your prerogative. Just not mine Singapore is beautiful with great food and, in my experiences, very friendly people. I've also visited Kuwait (Kuwait City) and it was fascinating. The world was meant to be seen. For me, at least. -

You can't judge the food until you've tasted it. I have been to many of these places and I've never felt in danger or hated. -

Have you traveled to one of these 'dangerous' places? Can you share your own experiences? -
Get me a shovel. This thread is brimming with a wee-bit o' bullshit.

... And? To travel the world means accepting other cultural differences, even if that means they don't immediately understand you. You can rally against what's not exactly like you or you can be an intrepid traveler. Rarely can you have both. Hate is a strong word. I wouldn't say some of these places mentioned all hate gays. -
Agreed. LOS is one of the best Thai eateries in the States. If you can't get in there, go Downtown to Le Thai. Solid food. Great spice. Next door to one of my favorite places to get tipsy and sing: Don't Tell Mama.

Good observation on Cox. While she was pretty great when she took over in Disney's AIDA, her turn as Lucy in the revival of J&H was painful. Listening to her scoop her way up to those notes, alongside her screaming co-star, felt like some kind of gay musical water-torture. I've never heard anyone sing those songs as well as Eder. Granted, they were written for her voice, but to this day, she can still sing them as effortlessly and with as much power as she did 20+ years ago.

Good cast. Decent music. Great choreography. It was a show that just got lost that season.

Your doc's job is to keep you safe... Let them do their job. Better overkill than the alternative

Know your status. Nowadays, there's no excuse not to protect yourself and others.

I listened to her do it live for the first time in front of an audience at 54 Below a few weeks ago: The key changes and the arrangement really suit her voice. As for her acting, that's another story. I love Linda, but she's never been known as a strong actress. Listening to her do lines in Jekyll & Hyde was comical. It's also why she starts every show by saying 'Hi, I'm Linda Eder and I'm a singer.' True story.

Being intolerant of women is just as bad as being anti-gay. They're just feeding their child. To compare breastfeeding to taking a shit or urinating speaks volumes about someone. Just quit while you're ahead: Not every thought you think deserves its own thread.

Agree about the soundtrack. I never knew about Shane Mack before, but now listen to his stuff quite a bit.

An even more modern take on Beautiful Thing is 2007's Shelter. Not as well-scripted, but a decent movie. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0942384/
