Thank all of you for your wonderful support. I hope that we can resume with this next year. Even tho 17 didn't occur, can we call it 18?

I'm not. But I wasn't before the pandemic either. I've always tried to be content in knowing others are working out... lol.

I’m thinking that PS 2021 will be a particularly enjoyable and perhaps poignant event. I value our little online community and the solace that it affords in these challenging times. My family and friends I increasingly cherish. Love to you all!

I know some people don't like Canyon Club, but their cancellation policy is even better. We only had to pay for the first night as a deposit, and it will be refunded to us (less a $15.00 cancellation fee) if we cancel no later than 72 hours before check-in.

I am sorry to announce that I must cancel the 2020 Palm Springs Weekend. In addition to the health concerns, the two restaurant venues are and will be closed until May 1. Also some of the possible attendees have already let me know that they will not be coming. Therefore, with all things considered, it is best to forego the festivities this year.

I just threw in the towel and cancelled my flight on Alaska and my reservation at Inndulge. Did both on line. AA will not issue a refund since I purchased a discounted non-changeable, non-refundable ticket. However, they will issue me a travel credit for what I paid to be used before February 2021. I am good with that. Haven't heard back yet from Inndulge. Maybe they will see fit to do the same thing.
 
Wrote to Oliver to cancel. Killed me to have to do it. I live outside of Seattle, the epicenter of this outbreak. I do not generally consider myself old and decrepit, but several friends have been kind enough to point out that I am. Will be staying home from work starting today.

Last year, I sprained my ankle a week before a business trip. I had to cancel my 4 night hotel stay, about $900, which I had prepaid to get a discount. I contacted the hotel to cancel, and when I asked about a refund, the manager said the prepaid rules were very strict, no refunds. I called my credit card bank which had the transaction and I explained my story. They put the charge on hold and did their investigation. It took 3 months but the credit card bank eventually gave me a full credit for the hotel charge. Ever since, that's the credit card I now use most often.

Everyone having an issue with the cancellation policy should post their experience on Trip Advisor. I’m holding off on canceling in anticipation of a forced grounding of travel. Then there is a force Majeure without question.
 
I may also contact my credit card company and file a disputed charge claim. The issuer may still validate the charge but resort will have to spend time, effort, and money verifying the transaction.

No credit toward a future rebooking? That’s bad business and creates an unnecessary good will problem. I accept that it’s a small business and being hit very hard but being flexible with cancellation and rebooking is a way to alleviate issues for loyal guests and the resort.

INNdulge"s decision not to modify there cancellation policy at this time, might not be the best business decision. I have stayed at INNdulge many time but will definitely look for other lodging options on any future visits to PS.

It was a difficult decision, but one that I had to make. I just told Oliver that I would not be attending the PS Gathering. This would have been my eleventh gathering. Say safe and have fun!

I’m still planning on attending as well but monitoring the situation. I’d take a road trip if it was feasible but for me it’s a 20-hour drive for a long weekend. So, it’s flying or not going. Currently my flight (on a CRJ 700) is at 23% of capacity so there seems to be plenty of space. Since Coachella is cancelled my flight most likely won’t be packed to industry standards.
 
However, you can’t control crazy people like that JetBlue passenger diagnosed with coronavirus flew ‘knowing’ he could have the virus. The passenger flew from JFK to Palm Beach, FL despite “knowing that he was awaiting results for a coronavirus test” and he didn’t disclose this to any airline official until reaching the destination.
 
Here’s hoping for better news in the next few weeks.
