Roommate moving. Should I feel something?
gallahadesquire replied to gallahadesquire's topic in The Lounge
Thank you for your kind words. She just drove off … I couldn’t bear to watch the truck pull away. Five years ago, I inherited a cat from her ex-lover, and now she’s gone. -

gallahadesquire replied to + Avalon's topic in The Lounge

I'll change my tune. It is time to leave ... I won't say ASAP [or in my field, STAT], but expeditiously.

Do You Think The Full Moon Affects People?

On my recent trip to Honolulu, the wheelchair pusher asked if I wanted to stop at the Duty-Free shop. I had to explain to her that Hawai'i was part of the U.S. -
My Sister chose my Mother's urn. It's a slightly brownish Burgundy cloisonne with floral design. It's on the top bookshelf in my living room. After Mom arrived, my Sister couldn't find the Urn. "Where is she?" she asked. "She's on the top shelf." "I don't see her." "There ... in the middle ..." "DAMN! She fits right in with the decor!"

There was a dude on Waikiki beach, riding up and down, selling Domino's Pizzas. An Asian lady from Vancouver gave me half of her pepperoni pizza.

I got laid off ... almost unheard of for physicians ... due to medical reasons ... actionable? I agree, except maybe not ASAP, but start the job search. And although you feel secure, all heads eventually roll.

You might want to find out what they do with the cremated remains after "dedicating your body to Science." I don't remember if they are separately cremated, or if it is a mass cremation. Lovely idea, though.

Ever Get Anything Stuck Up Your Ass You Couldn't Remove?
gallahadesquire replied to + Avalon's topic in The Lounge
Just for clarification: The Chairman of my Department went to Surgical M&M (Morbidity and Mortality) rounds every week. He sat in the middle of the Front Row. No one else EVER sat there. If he wasn't going, he'd send one of the Senior Faculty in his place, and THEY wouldn't sit in his chair. He was there To Keep Surgeons Honest and to Prevent Any Inappropriate Blame of Anesthesia for Their Mistakes. It was a great place to learn. -
Ever Get Anything Stuck Up Your Ass You Couldn't Remove?

Get Matt Czuchry stuck up my ass? Oy. I kinda like the writing, but at the Harvard hospital I trained at, The Resident would never have made it past internship, let alone to Chief Resident. And he would have been sent packing, the first time he spoke to the Head of Surgery that way. They need a strong Head of Anesthesia ... that would show them. -
It lends itself towards relatively minimal staging. It’s fascinating, especially the choreography.

I had some great bookcases for the family room ... looked nice, were real veneer on particle board. Local supplier went out of business. They were in a flood, and the particle board just disintigrated. Sigh. But I'd buy those again. Also bought as 6' tall cabinet. My housemate assembled it, so I have no idea how difficult it was (She said two hours or so) but it's solid and looks great.

Caveat Emptor. For purchases as large as furniture, I'm going to the store. We have a plethora of good-to-cheap furniture stores--Brick and Mortar--here. Must be something about Yanquis. I've taken to buying clothes online, because the selection of shirts is SO much bigger from Jos A Bank. And you can return locally, which seems to work for them whereas it failed at Land's End with Sears. Of course, I bought socks from Walmart, as they no longer carry the item in question. And they sent me the wrong ones, anyway. My TV was bought online, and I couldn't have been happier with delivery. If I'm going to spend a large amount of money ... say for a stereo amplifier ... I want people I can see face to face and show them what's wrong with it. It's our last chance to see "The Little Guy" stay in business.

Can anyone recommend a good Vetiver? I have asthma attacks if I smell Axe. A younger friend of mine [kind of a God-son] used to spray his entire room, to cover the smell of marijuana.

In 1971 or thereabouts, I was a member of a "smaller" chorus who were chosen to perform Messiah with Sir Colin Davis. The choral director asked us at one rehearsal: "Chorus, you're learning the material very quickly ... I chose you for that .. but why are you Louder than the full chorus?" When we got to rehearsing with Sir Colin, we were somewhere in the Third Part. "Now, let's sing Lift Up Ye Gates." "Uh, no. I cut that," said our choral director. "We don't sing that." "WELL! If you cut that, then I'm cutting ..." and it went back and forth. Just the usual cuts. Anything you can cut, I can cut better.

And we dolts like them, too!

Give me L'Orfeo of Monteverdi anyday! Love those ritornellos.

My mother had a subscription to Lyric of Chicago from when it re-opened after WWII to the early-to-mid-'80's. I never got into it. I'm a choral singer, and although I was recorded in Damnation de Faust of Berlioz, opera has generally not interested me. That, and chamber music. I did hear Brigit Nilsson in Tristan in 1969. Breathtaking. The Liebestod (I hope that leigh.bess.toad is doing well) was like having a warm, fluffy, wool blanket injected into your veins, even in the uppermost balcony at the Met. And a guy left during it.

I was in a rehab hospital last year (severe joint infection). I noticed that there were 20 patients on the floor; 2 nurses (LPNs and RNs were interchangeable); and four nursing aides. The nurses were in patient contact full time. I couldn't figure out how until I noticed ... there were two (or more) nurses who had NO patient care responsibility and did all the data entry. Fascinating solution to the "Too Much Paperwork," although most of our care was pretty routine ... Vancomycin twice daily, at 10:00 and 22:00; opiates on schedule ...

Had one AND a white Dinner Jacket. Had to for performing with the Boston Symphony CHorus (Tanglewood Festival Chorus). Three regular season concerts and four concert weekends. I could never have afforded the rental fees.

I tried BYOE, and it was fine.

There are three matches in rentmen.eu to "Dilan". I hope the OP will tell us which one he's interested in.
