They can be. They are currently a monopoly in the US.

The place is called LeBoy, for gods' sake. If someone does not like twinks, move on!

You must have been lucky. As a native speaker, I struggle to understand the Spanish spoken and written by the uneducated poor not only from other countries but even from Argentina.

Wow. I find myself agreeing with @BSR. Unexpected. 😇 @Unicorn, I think, on the one hand, you are exaggerating the differences between regional Spanish variations. As BSR pointed out, the grammar is the same as Castillian's. In the K-12 system in Argentina, the local Language Arts classes are not named Español but Castellano. On the other hand, you are blurring the differences between Mexico and Colombian variations. This could be because you are not a native speaker, and it is harder for you to distinguish regional accents, as it is for me to determine them in English and other languages that are not my first tongue. Besides, Mexico and Colombia are big countries, and there are variations inside of them. The regional differences do not have to do with grammar but with vocabulary and accent (I like to talk about music). Furthermore, I do not think it is accurate to speak of national variations but regional and subregional variations. There is no difference between the Spanish spoken in the Argentinean NW and Bolivia, for instance, or between most of Colombia and Venezuela. Mexicans from the North speak pretty differently than Mexicans from the South (who have a Spanish very similar to Colombians).

My nephews grew up in Buenos Aires watching American cartoons doubled in Mexico. It took most of their Elementary school years to bring their Spanish back to the Rio de la Plata. They used to speak using "tú."

So your Spanish friends think Salamanca is THE place. Well, my Colombian friends think Bogotá is THE place. My Mexican friends think CDMX is THE place. Argentinians will send you to Buenos Aires and Córdoba. My Spanish friends from Andalucía would be rooting for Sevilla. Castillian Spanish stopped being the monopoly of Castillians when they imposed their language on the rest of Spain and the world. If you are planning to learn Spanish to travel or live in South America, do not go to Salamanca.

Please god of shuttles and airlines: stop this~

As I shared before, I cannot afford business. Look at all the room I got in the United's extra legroom class. Even better, this was the first flight since the end of the lockdowns that was not full, and I had two seats for myself. I do not know how tall you are (I am 1,76 m), but even in regular cabin class, Brazilian LATAM seems to give more room than whatever airline you flew in: I just endured the flights and thought of the rewards waiting for me at Rio. You do not need to be a native of Salamanca to be able to speak this "pure" Castillian. I am not Spaniard, but I can teach Spanish with the characteristics typical of Peninsular Spanish. All you need to teach a language is to know the language. Applying your argument to a different situation, you would only be able to teach Spanish if you are a native Spanish speaker. The idea of language immersion has nothing to do with the native or not quality of the instructors. It has to do with the exposition to the language inside and outside of the classroom, diminishing your brain's chances of returning to its first language.

I humbly think those moments are a racist reaction to the BLM/woke rising. Beyond that, and whether or not you agree with the idea that racism is structural, my point is simple. If the conversation is about structural racism, and your response is, "Such a thing does not exist; the proof is that I am color blind," you are indeed stupid. You do not understand a socio/cultural/political structure if you think you contradict it with your experience. -
@Unicorn explained very well the importance of knowing the purpose before deciding where to experience language immersion.
-
The question, then, is when we decide to cut in the evolution continuum to identify an origin. I think otherwise. I think the idea of "purity" of a language has to do with erudition and the need for the upper classes to be the ones able to speak a pure language. In some cases, like in Spanish, this idea is at the foundation of the Real Academia de la Lengua Española. I always liked English more because of its lack of language authority and the much more democratic idea of anyone being able to create language.
-
He definitely does not know what he is talking about. I partially disagree with you. I do not think there is any place that can claim to be the purest example of any language. Languages are living structures, constantly evolving and interacting with one another. Salamanca, hosting the most prestigious Spaniard university and being a relatively small city (I do not think the population reaches 200K), I am sure has many educated people who can speak and write very well in Castillan. But from that to say that the region has the purest form of the language there is a huge leap.

When we point to structural racism as a challenge, there is always some oblivious/racist idiot saying: What? But I am color blinded!
