Thanks for the information. I might try and go next year. It's a promise I have to keep...

I have my friends ashes, God rest his soul, and he wants me to spread them at the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza. I am waiting for Egypt to come out of crisis mode. Has anyone landed in Cairo and taken the Nile to the Valley of the Kings in the last few years. My concern is safety of course.

+1... Just announce a day and be done with it. That said...I don't think it was so much the time-out that derailed it, but rather a lack of people willing to commit. It's the same old story, "put up or shut up"...When it came time "put up" everyone just "shut up". I never say yes, unless I am absolutely 100% positive that I can drag my southern ass to an event, otherwise I will just say, "I'll make every effort, but I can't promise anything" AND....should Grandma opt for a time later this year, say in the fall, I would "make every effort to be there" (It only takes two to tango)

LOL... The box arrived the other day from Lowe's. My friend is in Connecticut for a few days, and I decided to assemble everything to surprise him when he returned. Opened all the boxes and...NO SCREWS!!! <sigh>. They found one other set in Plantation, but when they opened the boxes, no screws either. Apparently there are no screws for that set in the whole district, sooooo...Lowe's has agreed to pick up all the furniture, take it back to the store, assemble it all, and redeliver. Great customer service. Kudos to the salesman at the Fort Lauderdale store who is "family".

But...The OP is alive and well, and lives to fight another day. There is hope on the horizon.

I just spent the morning helping a friend buy new patio furniture. We must have sat in a dozen different style of chairs and couches, all of which looked wonderful until you sat down. Only one was truly comfortable. It was noticeably so, in fact the moment we sat down, we both looked at each other, and there was a simultaneous...Ahhhh. We both commented on how difficult it is to buy furniture on line, because there isn't anyway of knowing how comfortable it will be, whether or not the color is right, or the quality up to standards. Like shopping for clothes, I need to feel the fabric, examine the quality first. One size does not fit all...but that's just me.

I think I have been discriminated against at work

Find a good lawyer. Period If what you are saying is accurate, regardless of the state, laws governing discrimination, whether it is race, age, sexual orientation, religious, often comes with zero tolerance. I had the identical situation at work a number of years ago. I was the victim of harassment over being gay, and over my race. The harassment was subtle and often with innuendos. The first time it happened I pushed back very hard. I filed a complaint with corporate, pursued complaints with HR, but the situation escalated. I finally got a lawyer. Some lawyers will tell you that you need to show that you have been damaged in some way, either financially or emotionally. Denied a promotion, salary cut, transferred to another area making it difficult to commute , layed off, forced into early retirement, demoted unfairly, or they want you to show that you have been emotionally damaged in some way, needing therapy, medication, the severity impacting your ability to perform your job... however that is not necessarily the case. None of those things had happened to me, I was just being harassed, which is why you need the right lawyer. A year later, when the lawsuit was finally settled, one of the guys in the office was terminated. I took a year off work on their dime, with full benefits, and then they had to pay me an additional year of disability, and they allowed me to retire early without being penalized, and then they wrote me a big fat check. Two days later I packed my bags and headed to Florida. Good luck... -
You might also check out Travelers Insurance. They insured our HOA for a brief period end of 2016, they were very competitive price wise and allowed the insurance bill to be paid in quarterly installments, something that Lloyds of London does not permit.

Our building is insured with Pettineo Insurance Group based in florida. Our previous policy had three different carriers, with Citizens being the primary, but they went up significantly a few years ago after the threat of hurricanes. Pettineo is an insurance broker and they were able to wrap our liability, comprehensive, flood and wind under one carrier Lloyds of London, which also included insuring the board of directors. The savings was several thousand dollars per year. This year, despite the hurricanes, our insurance dropped again. Lloyds of London took off an additional 15% because we installed a new roof, and dropped our requirement for a 'wind mitigation' report. We have found that wrapping our insurance policy under one carrier is a significant savings, because one carrier can be more competitive than three. My advice would be to find a good broker that will work with you. Good luck...
