I’ll be buying my ticket on Saturday. I’m tempted by onstage seating. Wondering if anyone has experienced this? I did standing room for Twelfth Night and wished I had booked a seat ahead. Any seat. But it was worth it. Seeing a play by candlelight was so lovely.

The good old days. What they did for art.

This show looks like it could be very good. Starring the brilliant Mark Rylance. http://farinelliandthekingbroadway.com/

The International Stud, the name of the original first act and where the play starts off was a real bar in the West Village. It was in the days of anything goes in NYC. What looked like a nice little neighborhood gay bar complete with exposed brick walls and a pool table had a notorious back room. Behind a curtain it was packed with men having sex in an almost completely dark room. One huge orgy! You could call it the good old days. Or not.

Coming to NY February 27, Edward Albee's play Three Tall Women starring Glenda Jackson, Laurie Metcalf and Allison Pill directed Joe Mantillo. Sounds like a hit to me.

If this becomes a trend I look forward to the Jackson Pollock movie.

So glad for this post. I never heard about the book which I'm reading right now. Very, very good. I look forward to the movie. Last night I watched the film I Am Love with the always excellent Tilda Swindon on Netflix by the same director. A really unusual and interesting film. Thanks for letting me know about this also.

Caleb Carr's The Alienist (TNT Adaptation)

I read this book when it came out. What was interesting for me was that I was living in the East Village at the time and worked in the West Village. On my way to work I would walk through areas and pass by some of the buildings mentioned in the book. It made the book come alive for me. Years before I lived 2 blocks from the Morgan Library. I was reading the book Ragtime and when it got to the siege of the library I put the book down, walked over to look at the building and returned to my apartment to continue reading. I thought that was pretty cool. -
I'm trying to imagine Dolly Parton in the role. She already has the name. Seems she's on the list. This could turn out to be like Chicago where every few months someone new (and old) is dragged in to keep ticket sales going. Let's start our own list. Barbra Streisand maybe ha ha.

Just saw on TDF tickets for Hello Dolly are $47. So if you want to see the show without taking out a second mortgage on the house this will be your chance. Donna Murphy will be stepping in whenever Bette Midler is taking a break.

That article answered a lot of questions for me about this incredibly dedicated actor. I can't begin to understand the physical and emotional strain of doing this role over and over. I was drained after the show ( in a good way ). What he'll do next should be really interesting.

I saw the show yesterday and everything positive in the reviews is all true. Ben Platt is simply amazing and will tear your heart out with his singing. I swear he was crying during one of the many emotional numbers. Considering he's been doing this part for quite a while it's astounding he can maintain that level of intensity 8 times a week. I can't imagine him not winning the Tony. I don't think I've seen any other performance this season that matches Ben's. I'm sure at some point he'll be moving on to another show so I'd encourage everyone to see the show with Ben if possible.

That's what I found so much fun about the show. The people you'd least expect to see making these elaborate concoctions are often the most accomplished. Building houses during the day and whipping up a chocolate mousse in the evening.

I came a little late to the game. Story of my life. However I just binge watched 3 seasons of The Great British Baking Show and loved every minute. Never would have thought baking could be that exciting. Well, maybe exciting is a bit of an overstatement. Have tried to get friends interested and I just get funny looks. Okay, it's not Game of Thrones but still .....

Saw it years ago with Carol Channing. I can pass on this revival especially for what's being charged for tickets. If I need to see Bette I'll go watch Beaches.

I second this recommendation. A wonderful show. On what was probably the worst day in American history the citizens of Gander proved there is still hope and goodness in people.

Since the Rubin was mentioned a few times do you know the building used to be Barneys before they opened the big store uptown? They kept the original staircase and turned it into a very serene museum experience. Very few people go there I assume because the collection has a very specific collection of Himalayan art all collected by one very wealthy couple.

Recently re-visited the Getty Villa in Malibu. Feels like a movie set for all those swords and sandals flicks. Beautifully done and nice collection of ancient art.

Okay and the new Whitney in NYC is great for its views and if the weather permits you can walk the High Line down from 34th Street. Makes for a good day. The Whitney has a nice restaurant also. And if you like museum dining Robert, the restaurant on the top floor of the Museum of Arts and Design on Columbus Circle in NYC is quite good and has spectacular views of Central Park.

Also would like to mention the Noguchi Museum an easy subway ride from Manhatten.

I too am a museum junkie. Now that I'm in LA I've been hitting the major art museums. I really liked the Broad Museum and its free which is very nice. Also I'm very fond of the Brooklyn Museum which is often overlooked by tourists. On a spring day it's very nice to combine a visit with the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens which are really lovely.

There are so many incredible actors of a certain age this series could really keep busy and add lots of fun to the plot. I hope it keeps going for that reason alone. Dolly would be amazing.

Seems to be getting not so great reviews but all agree the casting is great.

So far this new show with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston has real potential. Very funny first episode. I hope it continues.
