I have tried hard and been successful in not gaining weight during this stay-at-home time. I had hoped to reduce, given that I wasn't eating out, but that didn't happen either. Prior to mid-March I had sessions with two different trainers each for two sessions each week. I do have a home gym with a weight machine, treadmill, bike, elliptical, stability balls, bosu, kettle-bell and couple of dumbbells. I was mostly lazy and only did the treadmill most of the time. I did up my treadmill use to 3.5-4 miles every day and allowed myself to watch Netflix or Hulu only when on the treadmill. I did start Zoom workouts with one trainer a few weeks ago and will return to that workout space next week. This facility is small and private, but has a good selection of equipment and only has one trainer and one client using the space at a time. On the other hand, I went back to the other trainer this week as well - the gym is big, no one wears a mask (except me) and has a fair number of people in it at one time. Feels a bit uncomfortable, nonetheless it is good to get back to the routine.

My (possibly poor) recollection is that Club 20 emerged after the Gaiety closed. For me it was OK, but didn't come close to Gaiety. One of the Gaiety dancers I saw a couple of times was one of the first managers of Club 20. It was nice to see him again, even though it was a different context.

I also had a collection of matchbooks from places, mostly restaurants and bars that I'd been to, going back to the 1970's. I have been clearing out the storage area of my basement in preparation for downsizing and spent time looking through them, trying to remember the places they came from and then trashed them.

Ben Platt Live From Radio City Music Hall : NETFLIX
leeper replied to Cooper's topic in TV and Streaming services
There are a couple of videos of the Ben Platt singing with his brothers Jonah & Henry on YouTube. I think Jonah and Ben look a lot like brothers and Henry, not as much. They all have terrific voices that blend beautifully. Both Jonah and Ben have been on Broadway, as Jonah played Fiyero in "Wicked" for a while. There are also videos of Ben and Jonah singing together and Ben and Henry singing together. All three sang together recently on the televised 2020 Graduation Special. If you're interested, just go to YouTube and search "Platt Brothers singing". -
I watched some interviews with the cast in which they said that from the original scripts it seemed like the show would be a lot more explicit and raunchy ("Raunchy" being a direct quote). There was even talk of fitting a couple of the male cast members with prosthetic dicks. Ultimately, the show ended up being shot to be a lot tamer than originally suggested. (Unfortunately)

Maximum in NYC was my favorite - enjoyed everyone I met through them. Matt &/or Stephen were always very easy to deal with.
-
He was also in a sci-fi show called "Dark Skies" where I first took notice of him. His character in "Locke & Key" is totally hetero at this point, although I still have two episodes left to watch in Season 1.
-
And I won't be back in NYC for two more months - hope he finds this full-time decision as successful as he hopes it will be. Hopefully I'll be able to connect with him then.

I thought it might be funny, not necessary good, from the previews - watched episode one. One and done; agree with the others here, it is not good and not funny a all.

I'm wondering if Ryan Chambers is either retiring or taking time off. I contacted him on January 4th, noticing that he had last logged onto RM late on Jan. 3. Did not hear back from him. The next day his RM ad showed as expired.

I met with Clark today and found him to be easy to communicate with and responsive and believe his explanations of the situations when he was found to be otherwise.

I thought the show was excellent and enjoyable, even given the ending. A number of people gasped at the pivotal point - clearly they weren’t up to speed on their mythology. On a related note, I saw Reeve Carney walking hand-in-hand with Eva Noblezada on Eighth Ave the other day in what looked like their show costumes. It was the middle of the afternoon and not close to show time.

Despite the strong negative reactions this play got from some people, I am totally bummed I won't be able to see it. I actually had a ticket to see it on the 22nd, but won't be able to see it before it closes. I have a feeling that I would have enjoyed it.

Attention! - 15th Annual Palm Springs Weekend, 2019
leeper replied to + Oliver's topic in The Lounge
TruthBTold - My sentiments exactly - sending my best to all of the attendees. I have only been able to join this gathering a couple of times and would definitely be there if I could this year. -

I don't post often, but this forum has been part of my daily routine for many years. During December, I will surely miss it. I sincerely hope that the "closed for remodeling" sign, will indeed come down in January and the welcoming doors will be flung wide open again. Despite its issues and detractors, this is a special place. I am not ready to move on.

It kind of depends on the theater. Some have stepped orchestra seating which is better than slanted floors for seeing over the folks in the row in front of you. My preference is to try and snag an aisle seat which usually affords a clear view.. The mezzanine is usually stepped so that is almost always a good choice if want to avoid the "bobbing and weaving".

I saw the original production at the Village Gate a couple of times. I also saw the later Broadway version as well as a production in Philadelphia (which had "The Cunnilingus Champion of Company C" taken out due to a copyright issue with the folks responsible for "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy". The show was quite provocative at the time, but this was also around the era of "Oh Calcutta" and the movie "Deep Throat". Of course, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. The young man in the initial off-broadway run at Village gate who sang "I'm Gay" was beautiful. I recall as we left the show, some members of the cast came into the audience (naked) to thank us for coming. I also saw the 2013 remount which apparently had some level Earl Wilson Jr.'s involvement. It didn't have the nudity of the original and just kind of fell flat for me. What seemed exciting and provocative in 1974, no longer seemed either.

SHAMELESS Returns Tonight On Showtime
leeper replied to + Avalon's topic in TV and Streaming services
Kevin and "V" have the two daughters. The little boy that is usually in their household is the son of Svetlana, the Russian who had become part owner of their bar, and Mickey, who was Ian's boyfriend. For parts of the previous season, Kevin, V, and Svetlana formed a "thruple", a threesome couple. -
I saw "Moulin Rouge" earlier this week. What follows is merely my reaction to the show, and shouldn't be considered a review. As most have mentioned, the set, costumes, choreography, lighting, etc. are all magnificent. The singing is all great. The crowd seemed to eat it up. For me, the contemporary songs that provide the music for this "jukebox" musical, completely took me out of the show almost every time. Some audience members near me were loudly gleeful every time a song they knew was being performed. As far as the lack of chemistry on the part of the leads noted in some of the comments, for me, whether they had "chemistry" or not was hard to ascertain since their job seemed to be primarily to be "song horses" for the pop ballads selected for the show. They did this with great distinction. The most successful character for me, was Danny Burstein's, mostly because he didn't have as many insipid songs to sing.

Why every gay man should visit Palm Springs at least once in his life
leeper replied to + Avalon's topic in The Lounge
I totally agree with Oliver, Palm Springs is a great place for us midwesterners to avoid winter. It is one of the few places where I can go and not feel like I am so old. -
I didn't really get this play when I saw it last year in Chicago. Saw Young Jean Lee in the audience furiously taking notes and figured it might get some major rework. Saw it again two weeks ago in New York. It didn't change much at all from Chicago, I still didn't get it, but didn't hate it either. Enjoyed seeing Armie Hammer and Josh Charles on stage. Whatever she was going for had no resonance with me, but the reviews today were largely OK. Obviously they found more there than I did.

Seeing this next week, big fan of both Karen and Aaron. Most of the online comments I have read do mention the lack of chemistry between the two. Will have to judge for myself. Still looking forward to it.

I read the article about the keyless ignition issue earlier today in the print edition of the New York Times. While the deaths and harm caused by the carbon monoxide poisoning is indeed tragic, I took exception with the tone of the article which seems to suggest that this is the car's fault or the auto manufacturers fault. It is due to people needing to pay better attention to what they are doing. Just like the parents who "forget" they have kids in the back seat, or think the accident caused by their texting while driving is not their fault, it clearly is. The Palm Beach Fire Dept. started handing out carbon monoxide detectors and signs that say "Carbon Monoxide Kills. Is Your Car Off?" Perhaps dealers can hand out these signs with the cars they sell to help out people who are clearly absent minded or distracted - one wonders if these folks should be driving in the first place. By the way, all of my current cars are keyless and I have been driving keyless cars for over a decade. I always make sure they are off, before I unbuckle my seatbelt. I am sympathetic with those impacted by the deaths and impairment, but I believe people have to take the majority of the responsibility for their own actions or inactions.

I hope everyone has a great time in PS - I have been able to attend a couple of times, but haven't been able to in the past few years. Instead I am here in the cold, snowy, rainy midwest, missing the warm poolside sun and camaraderie of this gathering.
