  1. The two are not mutually exclusive.
  2. The one in the bowl.
  3. We’re in violent agreement on this point, hence my use of “browbeat” and scare quotes around “stingy.” AP US history is precisely the kind of class that these parents target. And yes, if a high school starts to give out more As, the to privates will consider the school weaker and take fewer students from there. The parents of weaker students prefer this outcome to the status quo because at least their kids have a chance. As for weighted GPAs, sone schools don’t report them. Of course, the UCs calculate them on their own. Some high schools don’t report the weighted I was lucky enough to have great teachers almost every year. But in elementary, I had one with a serious anger problem who clearly couldn’t stand kids. She stated teaching in the late 40s. I’m guessing that had she been born fifty years later, she would have chosen a different profession.
  4. Did most of these incidents happen over the past few years? Parents get mad when their kids are called out, but the real issue may have been that you docked their grades. College admissions have become extraordinarily competitive recently, and today's parents are willing to browbeat teachers into awarding higher grades. My hometown paper's comments section is full of complaints about teachers who are "stingy" with As and thus "ruin" their child's chance of getting into college.
  5. Avalon has said that he has serious mobility issues. This is downright cruel.
  6. Sorry, Ace. My guess is that the new escort is uncomfortable with this line of work and sees it as something shameful he does on the side.

    Skin Care

Prescription retinoids like Taz and Retin A have been shown to work long term for anti aging and acne. Many people also need a cleanser that works but doesn’t dry out your skin. Soaps are too strong for me.
  8. I've noticed that a lot of people, including women, don't carry wallets at all anymore. They put their driver's license and CCs in a pocket on their iPad case and don't carry cash. I have too many cards of various kinds (health insurance, CCs, a ratty 10 massages get 1 free card) that can't be replaced with apps, so I still carry a wallet in my bag.
  9. Why, Jawja, I thought nothing was ever allowed to poke you there.
  10. Both kids were. Only difference is that the girl had better social skills and realized that the servers would have to talk to her.
  11. There are whole forums devoted to this. I remember one 7 y.o. who was at a restaurant with her parents, who totally ignored her. They let her run around and bother the servers during a peak brunchtime. The servers had to send her on "errands" to get away from her and finally had to hide from her altogether. Another mom jabbered away on her phone while her 10 y.o. kid ran around and joined random people sitting alone. He eventually came to my booth and sat right next to me. Then he went to the terrace and bothered random people walking by. Mom could care less.

Aestheticians do peels all the time, just not the super strong TCA peels that require a week of recovery time. Some dermatologists do clean pores manually. Others don’t because it’s not particularly lucrative, but they often have an in-office facialist who does.

I've found a combination of manual clearing and acids works best. Almost every major skincare place in NYC does both. If the acids work and you never need anything else, more power to you.

If your pores are clogged, clearing them out is important. I've found that aestheticians are often very rough while doing extractions, plus they put on a bunch of creams that further clog the skin. A good dermatologist can do a better job.As for what I put on my skin, a salicylic peel really helps.
  15. Sferra advises that sheets dried on delicate cycle. The sheets should be damp when removed from dryer and should be ironed dry. (Actually, someone on this board advised me to do that too.)
  16. I know. It's really soft though, and as you can see, I like soft, fluffy things. If I could do it over, I would have bought percale for some of the items.
  17. Never bleach high quality cotton sheets if you can help it. The fabric will break down and tear immediately.
  18. I know you don't. I hope the GP gives it to you, but some won't. Just warning you before you before you take time off.
  19. For all you private jet guys:
  20. Be aware that he may refer you to a psychiatrist rather than giving you the meds himself. Many GPs don't want to take on the liability risk.
  21. FWIW, your grammar and punctuation seem great to me.
  22. It definitely did. You could do well in a job that involves writing. Looking forward, have you thought about teaching? Maybe ESL?
  23. Come on over, Az. I've always gotten a fairly nice discount on them. I bought them at 45% off. I have standard comforter from Amazon; no need for a duvet cover. I think it's crazy to buy high thread count bed skirts and such. I focus on the sheets and pillowcases that actually touch my skin. I admit to hoarding them. The set on my bed now is 6-8 years old and torn. The ones I bought over 1 1/2 years ago are still unopened. I need to figure out a realistic way to care for them so they'll last longer.
  24. Sferra Giza 45. Crazy expensive but they are the softest sheets ever. I bought a few sets of sateen but the Percale feels cooler and lasts a lot longer.
