thomas reacted to + WilliamM in Palm Springs vs Provincetown
There have always been energetic young men in Provincetown on Summer weekend night as far back as I can remember (early 1960s) It is Cape Cod where families go for vacation. Falmouth, Hyannis in particular drow young people
Try Rockport and Gloucester on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Not gay, but beautiful places to visit

thomas reacted to + Charlie in Palm Springs vs Provincetown
From the early 1960s, P-town was my gay resort of choice. In fact, that is where I met my spouse in 1968, and we used to go back regularly; however, we stopped going in the 1980s, and the last time we were there was twelve years ago. We didn't come to Palm Springs until 2004, and have lived here since then. P-town was where I had lots of sex and gay fun when I was young and there weren't many places where one could be openly gay. Palm Springs is where I live in an "active adult" community, shop, play tennis, and no one I encounter thinks it unusual that my spouse is a man. So it is hard for me to compare them, since my familiarity with them occurred at different times in their history and my own. For me now, the only important difference is the climate: I remember P-town as grim in winter, but much nicer than Palm Springs in the summer.

As I care for mostly indigent patients many of who are separated from their families, I have had to deal with conservators being appointed. In New Jersey it can take months to get someone appointed and Unicorn is correct in that in almost every case, there was a full court press to do everything, even when medical advice was to the contrary.
In none of the cases with which I have been involved, did the patient improve as a result of extraordinary care. In one case, a distant family member who was found by the conservator, was living in another country and agreed to make arrangements for ongoing care there. The hospital rented a private medical evacuation plane to fly the patient and a staff of caretakers to the other country and care for him until he reached the other facility.
As the patient was in a persistent vegetative state and he was only 24 years old, the cost, though exorbitant, was ultimately less expensive than caring for the patient for what might have been decades.

thomas reacted to relax man in Masseur is making booty-calls to me
@Wolfer, it sounds like you've assessed the situation pretty well. The masseur sounds like someone who is basically just looking to monetize his sex life. If he was interested in some kind of relationship with you, he wouldn't be charging you for it. Nothing wrong with continuing to see him; just be clear with yourself that you're paying him for sex, and don't let your expectations exceed the reality. Good luck.

thomas reacted to Cooper in Expressing a concern for Guy Fawkes/daddy
March 18th Update:
Received a call from the social worker. First off daddy’s condition remains unchanged. She called to let me know that a long time friend of daddy’s from the state of Washington was appointed by the hospital to be his decision maker for his health care. Sadly, no family member was found.

thomas reacted to former lurker in Expressing a concern for Guy Fawkes/daddy
Everyone who has posted has been supportive of Daddy and, I think, sought to be constructive in a difficult situation. The medical news has been depressing, but not entirely shocking. Daddy's he
alth has been challenging for him. If positive thoughts, prayers and wishes matter, he has them from so many of us. It's also a warning to all of us that we need to plan for those situations when we cannot speak or act for ourselves in the moment. A lot more of us (gay men) end up being legally untethered to familial decision makers, unmarried and without offspring. It's all the more important for us to put in place decisionmakers and directives.

Some people who lived in a large family with only one bathroom become creatures of habit and automatically lock the bathroom door.
