I used to wear Chemise Lacoste polo shirts through my early 30’s. They lasted forever and looked even better with a few holes. In the 70’s, they were still made in France. The only brand names I wear now are in the athletic realm: Lululemon, Vouri and Arc’teryx. At least they’re fairly subtle brands.

agree - i like j crew - no recognizable logo at all. just a quiet statement of who they are and what they represent.

Unfortunately, lots of people get triggered by specific words.

    My advice?

It’s just a word, don’t give it the power to be anything more than that.

i agree with you for the most part, but... it's not just a word: the word reflects the consciousness behind it and in this specific case, the gentleman (here) had a history of pretty nasty stuff

NOTHING with a designer label is actually "stylish".

I've worked in and around the Fashion Industry and I work in Design.

Nobody with any style, and class advertises how much they spent on socks by purchasing them emblazoned with a giant designer logo.

take a look at hip hop videos....

    Yup

    That's my go-to if I make dessert for a sit-down dinner party.

Marscapone cheese with almond extract, a little brown sugar and sliced pears wrapped inside a Dufour puff pastry buttered on the outside with another sprinkle of sugar.

    Delicious.

you can up your game just a little by making your own vanilla creme patisserie... give it a look!

Pastry is one of my things to buy rather than make from scratch list. Short crust pastry I'll happily make, although more often for savoury pies (using meat dripping) than sweet ones, where I'm happy to buy sheets of pastry from the freezer section. Fillo pastry I wouldn't dream of trying to make, although I rarely use it.

Puff pastry is a different matter, I don't use it often and when I do, I usually use bought pastry. I seem to remember trying to make it with mixed results, but that was in the olden days. Now, not so sure, but this 15 minute segment (with the recipe in the notes) sparked my interest although not yet to action. I was interested in the 'you get what you pay for' bit about cheap pastry being made with margarine but if you want butter in it you need to pay more. It was also interesting to hear the ease with which folding and refolding it as you roll it out so quickly leads to 1,000 layers. It's obvious when you think about it, I just hadn't done so.

i went to a culinary school... and my final exam was making a pear puff pastry tart

ever since that day, i use frozen puff pastry (haha) but it does matter which brand you buy - read the label carefully for ingredients you don't want... to me the best is the Dufour brand

Like I said. You can find that in inferior neighborhoods such as the UPPER-UPPER West side (Harlem) or the UPPER-UPPER East side ( Harlem ) . Your younger friends are leaving out details about the amount of crime they are willing to risk to get a cheap rent. Most adults like to be able to walk home late at night without fear of being stabbed by a crack-dealer.

happy that you live in what you call a desirable location, but curious what you mean by "inferior" neighborhoods.

    mind to explain?

Why would a crack dealer stab anyone? They should have tons of money!

More to the point, "crack dealers" (which i wonder whether or not it is a coded reference to something quite different) want to avoid drawing the attention of law enforcement, not encouraging it.

    just a simple business calculus.

I keep hearing that, but when I speak to my younger friends, they have no problem finding a sub $3k 1BRs in the upper west side or upper east side. Some even find sub $2k 1BRs in West Harlem or Upper Manhattan.  Most of them dont have a doorman, gym etc, but basically a decent comfortable place.

you speak the truth - once people stop fixating on neighborhoods that are "trending", even though NYC housing prices have been and always will be ridiculously out of sync with most other cities, "affordable" places are there to be found with a little bit of work and some flexibility in standards.

but gone are the days, i guess, of $125 apartments in the east village with the famous tub in kitchen, haha

Certain fetish play such as "race play" can actually help heal emotional wounds by facing your fear in the context of an exciting sexual encounter.  Fear intensifies orgasm and by regularly mixing sex with fear, the negative eventually gets associated with the positive.

Anyone who is skilled in BDSM is adept at using a person's fear to deliver a rewarding experience.

I honestly think you may have missed the point of my posting.... it is really NOT simply an individual problem, it is a collective's problem.

Let me preface this response with a blanket statement: this is my own point-of-view as a cis-gendered, upper-middle class, gay, Asian-American man. Please don't infer that my opinions/preferences apply to anyone other than myself.

I have had sex that involved race-play of varying intensities with a few different sexual partners. My experiences were all positive, meaning I enjoyed myself, and I'm pretty sure that my partners did as well. For context, these were men with whom I'd had repeated sexual encounters, many of which did not have a racial component. There was an established relationship (platonic or romantic) with a high level of mutual respect and trust. I felt safe with these men, and they with me, so we were able to engage in this particular type of play without fear of offense or injury.

I can't speak to why other people enjoy this type of roleplay, or if it's problematic; I can only explain why I find it exciting. Like many people, I have dealt with some form of "just a preference" most of my adult life (side bar: being "really into blondes and redheads" is not fooling anyone). So, for me, it can be validating to be desired because I'm Asian, with the understanding that this usually comes with preconceptions. In a sexual context, I can get off on playing into those preconceptions, however it would be foolish for anyone to think that they apply to my real life.

Perhaps because I come from a nation where people performing "race play" figures deeply into  our national consciousness... where sex tourism runs rampant..... where the very possibility of a meaningful relationship between an Asian and a white/western person must overcome so many hurdles for it to be even possible

Perhaps because I am a young, Asian person who is often fetishized for NOT fitting into conventional stereotypes of the Asian man

Perhaps I need to bottle up my rage a bit (something we Asians are widely acknowledged to be SOOO good at,,,)

Exactly. It should be in the deli…. But he advertises as a masseur only. 🤷🏻‍♂️

He used to be a "service provider" (not a masseur) at gogo bars in Bangkok. Perhaps there is some carroyover from that choice of profession. But he truly needs to make up his mind, not mislead, and be clear about who and what he is.

Massage good... but with sooo much hype in here I was expecting something EXTRAORIDNARY, and it is not, based on my experiences getting massages.

Massage is on bed, no face cradle... so that makes it uncomfortable. He WAS not ready when I arrived, even after me telling him that I was on my way. We started late... and he ended that session without compensating for the lost time.

If you get the 300/VIP gets you full service. Not sure what you get at a lower rate...  If you like masculine guys, this is NOT your guy. Maybe my bar is too high when it comes to a great massage. And I really don't care for full service when I get a massage, I prefer a more sensual/erotic session than full service.

Had a similar experience  - he was not ready for me at our appointment time.... left the door ajar to his hotel room while he was in the shower so I kind of awkwardly entered the room and waited... and waited....

The massage work was on a bed which gets very comfortable, particularly if the guy is as skilled in his work as this guy was/ I was congested, my neck hurt, my face hurt, and so on. But the massage was technically good.

The problem -- and this is why I don't get all the hype as well -- is that this is clearly a job for him and he does not know how to even fake engagement. I went for the VIP thing too, and his eroticism was surprisingly un-erotic -- I got the feeling that he does not like to be touched.

Left feeling like I knew way too much about this guy's life, and my happiness disappeared as I thought back on what had happened.

    Would not repeat.

I own a wok (left behind in 2003 by a former roommate who'd never used it), but have never cooked with one.

I just figured this site gives a bunch of recipes and experienced wok(e) users might be able to tell via the ingredients/cook times which might be good, or maybe just get inspiration from.

Take a look at this site for some good entry level and flavorful approaches to wok cookery:

  14. I had a guy I worked with - hot MexAm twink.... but he has changed his name like six times in the last year so I don't know how to recommend him and the more important question should be IF i should recommend him.

Especially since he got into BB porn and ripped a client off.

I'm not naming names but just a beware of guys who change their names all the time.... gotta be running away from something or someone i guess.
