  1. My employer routinely sends employees test phishing emails to see what we do. If we do nothing, or delete without opening nohing happens. If we report it as a phishing email, we receive a message stating we did a great job and we get a badge and points on our internal social media profile. If we click on a link in a phishing email or reply to it we get a message stating we failed to identify a test phishing email and have to attend a training class. Those of us who correctly report phishing emails don't have to go through the training. Recently, I reported what I thought was a phishing email. It had the company logo on top and stated that I was required to do something immediately and had a link for me to click. Hovering over the link revealed a URL that was not within the company's domain. So, I reported it. Information Security thanked me, stated it was not a test, and assured me they would pursue the perpetrator and follow up if they needed additional information from me. Turned out that the email was legit, It was from our identity access management team (which is part of information security) who is using a third-party provider for a project. The anti-phishing team's boss talked to the identity access management team's boss. The employee who crafted the email was reprimanded for not following the procedure around email security and I received a Starbucks gift card and a letter of commendation. Phishers are getting more sophisticated. It is more important than ever to be vigilant.
  2. I said it is a college. Didn't say it is a GOOD college.
  3. Being a native Chicago/suburbs boy I love the bit around Ridge Avenue in Evanston. Don't forget Mt. Trashmore! Jon I lived in the Ridge Historic District for several years and loved it! My place was east of Ridge, near Dempster and Maple.
  4. QUOTE="azdr0710, post: 1827731, member: 5778"]admittedly, I'm not an Easterner, but just trying to think of places that meet all the stuff on your list, I come up with...... Boulder, CO (a bit full of itself, though) Missoula, MT (the Moscow of Montana) Austin, TX ("Moscow On The Colorado", a bit warm in the summer and some might call the hills nearby "mountains" ??) Ogden, UT (despite the UT in there, you'd be very surprised about the entire Wasatch Front) Seattle, WA (may be "huge" to you??) Not one of the states in which those cities are located are majority liberal. Based on the OP's criteria, he wants to retire to Evanston, IL. -Liberal: Makes Berkeley look conservative and very very LGBTQ... friendly -Not a huge city: 70K population, but right next to Chicago in case you decide you need a huge city for a day -Don't think I want heat/beach: It's always cooler near the lake. Oh, wait - there's that beach thing. Live west of the L tracks and you'll never see the water. Trust me. -I do like the mountains: Sorry, no mountains but there is that hill right off Ridge Blvd -College town: Take your pick: Northwestern and National-Lewis University
  5. Oh, God, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! the ratings on the open threads cause enough controversy.
  6. I don't think a product killing birds is concern for that network's audience.
  7. YUP! That, or a coincidence. I've kissed exactly NONE of my colleagues yet I've caught dozens of colds, stomach viruses, and cases of the flu from them. I was thinking the same thing. But then I read and realized that anything is, indeed, possible.
  8. I was attending services at St Seeley, Our Lady of Posturepedia and had to miss it.
  9. Not so fast. Someone who falls into the category of "low-to-moderate" (LMI) income likely can't afford to buy the mega-size. However, when that is the only size available they have to go without something else to pay for the ginormous size.
  10. I would definitely see him again.
  11. I've had a couple of escorts pay for dinner. One asked "may I take you out to dinner?" and the other paid while I was in the restroom.
  12. One of my fondest memories was the day my RBOC got NANPA'd by a team of CLECs. Good times.
  13. Disagree on the first part (see post above - need to compare like-for-like) but agree on the second part. As an asthmatic, I can tell you there are health benefits to fewer greenhouse gasses. Of course, me buying a package of Beyond Burgers does nothing to reduce overall greenhouse gasses.
  14. Oh, hell no it isn't healthy like eating vegetables! That's why they do not call it a "veggie burger." Then again, the vegetarian and vegan staples like tofu, seitan, and tempeh as well as protein powders are also highly processed. Given most cookbooks recommend, most restaurants use, and most beef-based burger patties available in stores use 70% or 80% lean ground beef for burgers, comparing a Beyond Burger patty to 90% lean ground beef is a bit misleading. Using a popular brand of burger patties as an example, the Beyond Burger has 50 fewer calories per 4 oz serving. (The beef-based brand is a 6 oz patty, it is very simple to calculate the 4 oz patty equivalent.) and 6 fewer grams of fat. The summary is it is comparable in calories and fat to most burger patties available in retail stores and restaurants.
  15. I recently made Beyond Meat burgers and really liked them. The absence of soy attracted me because I don't tolerate soy products. One thing to note is the patties quick VERY quickly. Using my indoor smokeless grill, the recommended 4 minutes per side was too long. Next time it will be two minutes per side. I found the same to be true. Call it "virtual reality meat."
  16. That's one of the funniest things I've heard in weeks. Glad I could inspire.
  17. My last family Thanksgiving was in 1999. In September, 2000 I moved from Chicago to San Diego, where I had friends but no family. The thought of traveling cross-country was sickening as was subjecting my parents to picking me up at O'Hare. For years one set of friends hosted Thanksgiving. At one point, some mutual friends started having Thanksgiving and I spent it with them until this year when I just didn't have the energy to drive 6 hours to join them. That's the long-form way of saying "you'll be OK, @Unicorn ." You will be surprised how many people step up and invite their friends.
  18. I like cherry and blueberry pie as long as they are not too sweet. Most pumpkin and apple pies are just too damn sweet. My mother made a terrific pumpkin pie. It was full of cinnamon and nutmeg, but not very sweet. Her apple pie was her finest accomplishment. The apples were crisp and tart and she used very little sugar but lots of cinnamon.
  19. It is very important to make sure one's perineum is properly moisturized when engaging in sunning therapy. Everyone knows natural moisture is the best, so I see a business opportunity here providing "pre-sunning moisture therapy."

    BLUBS

It is a standard 32 watt type "T8" fluorescent tube. "T8" is the type of ballast. Here in Phoenix, Lowes sells a two-pack for $13.98.
  21. It's an accomplishment for both the group and for the Macy's parade. Happy Thanksgiving, @quoththeraven.
  22. I'm spending Thanksgiving alone (well, the two cats are here) and will be making a turkey breast, dressing that closely approximates my mom's recipe, and corn on the cob for dinner. I had an invitation to see friends in California (with whom I've spent Thanksgiving for years) but I just could not bring myself to drive 375 miles each way. Last year I did and I was exhausted the entire weekend. Plus, i will be traveling to Florida for Christmas. Honestly, I am glad to have some "alone" time. Work tends to be a non-stop exercise in overstimulation and I need time off. Today I walked 5.5 miles and tomorrow I will do the same and take a bike ride, assuming we don't get rain. This reply should be pinned to the top of the Forum at every holiday.
