I think a common sense approach is to not have sex with someone who has pox lesions on their body or in their mouth.  The virus is only spread after symptoms begin…and of course, get the vaccine when available

I was lucky enough to get the vaccine on Thursday July 21 at the Gay Lesbian Center in Hollywood where i happened to be for my regular STD testing. Surprisingly they were able to get me in and within 25 minutes I was vaxxed and out of there with a date for my second Vax in a month.

From what I read, it seems to my non-medical eye that while it can be transmitted via bodily fluids, it’s not the casual transmission of said fluids - ie; shaking sweaty hands, sneezing, etc.. The emphasis is on sexual transmission because it is an active act where all manner of bodily fluids are exchanged over a prolonged period of time.

Of course, I could be entirely wrong, but that’s what I’ve taken away from what I’ve read 🤷🏼‍♂️

Do we have any doctors or infectious disease experts on here? I’m wondering what the risk is for the person getting a massage if the masseur has had the monkeypox vaccine.

I’ve read that  Monkey Pox is only contagious if the infected person already has symptoms.  It is apparently not very contagious during the incubation period.  If only people who experience symptoms would isolate for the duration of their illness, this thing would go away quickly?  Am I off base?  It is going to be 2023 before there is enough vaccine to  be available so we can’t put all our hope into that limited availability…

I have read some reports that the smallpox vaccine that we used to get as kids may offer some protection against monkey pox as the vaccine remains active in the body for a very long time.

The second shot isn’t nearly as critical as the first. The 2nd shot really
only prolongs the immunity that would otherwise start to wane after 2 years.
So as @Kevin Slater pointed out, it appears you’ve got a year or two to
    get the second shot.
    https://www.science.org/content/article/there-s-shortage-monkeypox-vaccine-could-one-dose-instead-two-suffice
In fact, NYC is putting the second shot on hold until they can get their hands
on more vaccine. In the meantime they’re planning on using all available
supplies only for 1st doses. It’s a much smarter plan given the limited
supplies and the rapidly expanding outbreak.
In fact many other countries have already been using this strategy, including
    Canada and the United Kingdom.
I predict once the CDC pulls their head out of their ass, the entire USA will
    be doing the same.

I don't have the article on hand, but I read a statement by the CEO of the company that makes the vaccine saying that it has a long immune response memory (or something like that), meaning that the second dose could be given two years out and still be as effective.

I think lesions can also appear on the penis and scrotum.
A lot of the interviews I watched/read back 2 weeks ago just referred to it as the "underwear zone".

This virus is making its way into a dense sexual and social network and is exploiting close contact for spread, so yeah, people need to be restrained for a while.
