I'd recently let my RM profile expire. In my case it was that I'm needing to focus on some other non-escort stuff so needed to take a step back from the escort work. It was just becoming a bit hard to manage everything.
I have regular guys who I will continue to see regardless of whether the RM ad is active or not. Just speaking for myself, but this kind of situation might be the same with others who have let their ads expire - maybe they're focusing on other things. It could also be an indication that the guy is transitioning out of the business, or is taking some time off. 

Ugh - I also don't want to use my credit card on the site because data breaches are such a regular occurrence these days. You just have to assume that it will definitely happen. The Ashley Madison breach always comes to mind. 🙃

A few months ago, RM accepted my Bitcoin to renew a provider's profile. Perhaps they recently changed their policy?

I would love to gift subscription on RM, the problem is that they only seem to take credit cards for that - and I don't like leaving a digital trail that's easy to follow. It's odd because they accept bitcoin (there are ways to cover your tracks with bitcoin) for client membership so it doesn't make sense that the subscription "gift" is credit card only. 
As for the lapses, I wonder if providers are seeing business slowdown, where they might not renew right away if business is slow. Any provider care to share their thoughts on that?

OMG this psychology has definitely worked on me when I feared I might miss an opportunity to meet a particular provider. 😅

A lot of our dear friends will let it expire for a few days because at times they will actually get additional requests for services!   Some clients have that “I can’t let this one get away thought and hire quickly”

Some providers also prefer to dip their toe into the water, so to speak, to gauge interest. As others have said, you can still reach them via RM messaging, as I have.

I think it’s probably more to it than that: recession sounds convenient but it’s also due to different factors: no rates posted, “scammers”, contacts who only contact asking to unlock private pics not book anything, and of course the over populated amount of profiles with selfie phone pics…making it look like just another hookup app, versus a site for attracting paying clients.
Non of that suggestion RentMen isn’t effective, but if a person is expecting high volume like the Hookup apps: it’s not going to happen. Most guys probably get bored with the bullshit, if they aren’t really in it full time. Or they do it briefly for a quick “fix” but aren’t generally relying on it long term. 

I’ll occasionally receive the members gift from someone. You can do it for 1 or I believe 3 months. For guys that often travel, the Gold membership is usually needed but can always upgrade during that time. 

Wondering if this is "yet another recession indicator" but I feel like I've been seeing way more profiles on RM that say "User Name  profile has expired!"
Anyone else seeing this? Are providers migrating to another site?

I’ve had a couple experiences with providers on Rentmasseur who won’t let me touch their nipples, which is a huge turnoff for me.
Anyone else has had a similar experience? Should you ask a provider in advance if he is “a nipple guy”? I wish these two providers had mentioned that in their profiles.

Poor communication 

This is a great point. The fact that they block certain words points out the fact that they don’t encrypt end-to-end. WhatsApp, iMessage, Signal and Telegram all do.  That’s why I use my Burner number for WhatsApp. 
 

This level of paranoia is where I am. Like to the point I’m not planning on leaving the country any time soon. 😬

Actually that reminded me, Android now has something called Private Space where you can partition apps away and with a different Google login so it's treated like a separated account and can't share.  At least i think that's what it does.  Haven't tried it myself.
