Be careful, as I learned the hard way that the resort fee is not for the duration of your stay, but PER DAY! It's a crime these charges are never factored in to the initial shown room price. When amenities are taken away, and I'm told to schlep to a nearby property to utilize facilities, that for me is inexcusable.

I've had a variety of experiences with resort fees.

  1. Made a reservation for a free promotional stay. Can't make online. Reservationist told me even resort fee comp'd. Got the email confirmation and it showed room charge $0.00 but resort fee to be charged. Called, complained, eventually wrote... they explained the reservationist was mistaken, but because she said it, they'll comp it.
  2. Made comp'd reservation online, paid the per night resort fee, at another Strip property. Knew about it, clearly indicated on website, per night, no surprise, etc.
  3. Made another reservation for a free promotional stay, same chain as #1. Reservationist told me even resort fee comp'd. I was skeptical, and she explained the fee definitely comp'd, but the confirming email is form letter, might show resort fee. Got the email confirmation and it showed room charge $0.00 and no resort fee to be charged. All other terms, food, freeplay, etc. of offer 1 and 3 were identical.... need to pay attention to every detail of an offer, and ask if not clear. And, be aware, sometimes even the resort's staff members don't know what they're talking about. All of the different offers come from different sources: reservations, marketing, player's club, player's club marketing, corporate, etc. [i learned by chatting with a seasoned, friendly representative while standing at the Player's Club counter in the casino. She said its confusing and frustrating for them too. Most casino employee's with direct-guest contact want you to win and get freebies as much as possible.]
  4. Offer for free nights, food, freeplay at a different property. They waive (not comp) resort fee, i.e. its not mandatory. However, that means paying a fee per device for wifi, fee to workout. Not sure about pool. And, they're currently modifying policies so that resort fee covers parking. So I will exercise the option and pay the resort fee upon arrival. Cautionary note.. i know current resort fee rate, but I'll call before leaving to ascertain if resort fee mysteriously increased $20 to cover "free" parking - it might change my rent-a-car or not decision.
