Last March 3 I had my first massage with Max and wrote the following in masseurfinder: Max is an acrobat and dancer and keeps scrupulously in superb shape. He applies his lifestyle discipline to his massage; trained as a masseur in Thailand his technique includes California type long strokes as well as pressure point, working with hands, elbows, knees and body weight. In an impeccable environment, one of the best if not the best in the city, he protects calm and positive energy making the experience something extraordinary. He is a kind, educated, thoughtful man. I discovered a treasure.

Today I had another session and reiterate my review 150%.

@Harryinny you should go into business writing reviews for masseurs. Your description of Max reads almost like poetry! You sold me.

I hate to weigh in again negatively on Max, but I feel like I have to when I read Harryinny's MANY rave reviews (3 of the 6 reviews on rentmasseur). They do, indeed, sound like paid reviews.

The bulk of comments on Max, by my count, are not positive, and I understand why. His rentmasseur ad advertises sensual and erotic massage, including sexy pictures in a speedo or underwear, and charging what's generally considered an erotic rate (Now $200 on rentmasseur!). Except for him removing his shirt, however, the massage had no more sensuality than a legit spa massage. He didn't come anywhere near my asscrack or penis and kept everything except his hands as far away from me as possible. I regard this situation as false advertising, putting the client in the position of having to beg for services that were advertised. As I wrote before, I felt leaving disliked.

A big part of this is what I experienced resulted from Max's remoteness which extended to the point of strangeness. Harry's reviews seem to acknowledge this (on rentmasseur: "some may confuse his timidity with coldness"). Let's all try to add our experience to the mix, not act as a boosters and apologists for our favorites.

Massageislife, all I can tell you is that my experience last week was very different from yours and very much like Harry's. I think there have been comments before that with Max you need to be up front about your expectations. I asked for a 90 minute combo deep tissue/sports/erotic massage, and that's exactly what I got, with a very high, satisfying quality on all aspects. You're welcome to DM/PM me about the details.

Dutchal, I appreciate your responding to me. Part of me wants to hear the details of your session, but I'm afraid it will also rub it in what he didn't do for me. :(

I believe that Harry and you--and I'm sure others--had a good experience with Max. I really only wrote because Harry's participation in discussions of Max verge on advocacy. I don't think that's what we're here for. I'm glad that when I say something glowing about a masseur, people weigh in with differing opinions. The last thing I want to do is tip someone into choosing a masseur based on what might be my anomalously positive experience with him.

I do feel, however, that masseurs who advertise erotic massage, post nude/almost nude photos, and charge "erotic rates" shouldn't require clients to ask for erotic elements. I know a lot of us on this site do make clear in advance exactly what we're looking for, but I don't like to make someone I haven't met agree to specific things that, once we meet, he (or I) might not actually want to do. All I wanted was for John to be naked (or at least in underwear, although that does not fit my idea of erotic massage), to naturally touch my ass and penis (not necessarily do anything more than that (although that's usually welcome!)), and to allow a natural degree of MT (although more, again, is always welcome there too!). My experience with him--and I just want to put it alongside the positive ones, not dissuade anyone from seeing him--makes me think of a can of tomatoes that has a picture of lasagna on the can. You're not necessarily getting lasagna, and if you do, you'll have to put in a lot of work!

At least the label on the tomatoes says "serving suggestion" in small print! :)

I’ve had two sessions with Max and both times, he’s asked what type of massage I wanted. I had to confirm erotic and both times the massage was performed as such that included MT and HE. With him, and from reading previous posts about him, working out the details beforehand is a must in order for you to get what you want.

I appreciate this confirmation, although, to be a broken record, I don't think one should have to ask. He advertises sensual/erotic and charges an erotic rate. Can I ask if there is an upcharge? Thanks

I just went through my text messages just for confirmation and yes $50 extra for sensual/erotic. IMO, the listed massage types on the ads I’ve always read it as the types offered, not necessarily given unless specified.

Thanks for your reply, aeikaryoko. I wish Max's fans had included this crucial information in their posts about him. Many of us like to pin a new masseur down in advance about the specifics of the massage, but many of us don't, feeling uncomfortable asking explicitly for sexual elements on a text with someone we've never met before, wanting instead to trust what the ad (and our chums on this site) indicates we should expect from the massage.

As I've written, I'm glad others have had a good experience with Max, but this forum--a godsend to me!--should be a place where we support each other, and that includes recommending good masseurs but also flagging things that might lead our brothers into unsatisfying situations. I wish someone had said, "With Max, you have to ask for nudity, MT, and HE in advance, and there is an upcharge."

Max is currently listing his rentmasseur (the site I contacted him through) rate at $200. That amount, as well as his almost naked photos, coveys a clear message that the massage will be more than strictly therapeutic. I've had far better masseurs than him for half that rate.

If Max is offering different rates for the listed choices, he should indicate so on his ad; otherwise it's false advertising. If he's not comfortable doing this, his reply to the initial outreach should be "What type of massage are you looking for?" and then say what the price would be. I'm sure he operates the way he does because he might lose customers when they found out about the upcharge.

I was dumfounded as we passed the hour mark of my 90 minute massage and he was still in short pants, shoes and socks, hadn't done anything sensual or erotic, and kept his body as out of reach as possible. Many sensual/erotic masseurs gradually disrobe through the massage and backload (no pun intended) the erotic elements, so I was patient. At that point, it was too uncomfortable--particularly with an off-putting personality like Max's--to say, "Will you take your pants off?," "Will you touch my ass?," or "May I touch you?"

It was a bad experience, but it could have been avoided by Max having been more honest or direct.

I forgot I started this thread, but did see him probably a few weeks after posting. I sent him a message asking if he did the massage in the nude with MT and HE and he responded yes. So I made an appointment and the only nudity I got was shirtless. HE provided, but mechanical. I thought the actual massage was great. He clearly knows what he’s doing, but left feeling I didn’t get the whole experience I was looking for.....and requested.

Went to him once. MT and HE. He asked if I wanted to give him a bj but that’s an additional charge. I passed. Massage was good though.

Max had the arrogance to ask you to pay him so that you could provide him the pleasure of a BJ? Now that is a bit much! If it were the other way around, I get it. I'll stay away from him. He's $$$$ hungry! Many other fine masseurs out there that are more than willing to do it all for much less.

Thanks for coming back to this thread, Jason. So Max won't follow through sometimes, even when you've confirmed in advance. Please Max fanatics, consider what other people are writing about this guy when you advocate for him.

I just saw the posts of @Massageslife and I quote above sentences that are unacceptable criticism without any grounding in fact or semantics. To suggest that I am being paid to write a review is downright insulting; to say that I am his advocate because I wrote a good review is downright stupid. And yes, we are here to provide our own opinions about our experiences. I had great sessions with Max/Johnsport,( and will have another one either tomorrow or Monday) and wrote about them enthusiastically because that is how I felt. If you did not have a good session with Max, it is your problem; spare your resentfulness.

Harry, one of the purposes of this site is for us, as a community, to give heads-ups to each other about our positive and negative experiences with masseurs. We do that for each other. Your comment "If you did not have a good session with Max, it is your problem" is woefully out of line with this sensibility. I feel for guys on this site who have been taken advantage of or treated shabbily by a masseur, and I participate in these discussions to do my part to reduce the incidence of such experiences.

As for my crack about "paid reviews," here are the "facts" that I was responding to:

1) 3 of the 6 reviews of Max on rentmasseur were written by you. Before I discovered this site, I depended on such reviews. I didn't notice that, in a few cases, many of the reviews were from a single poster, the purpose of which can only be to recruit customers for a masseur. It's likely that the masseur himself or a friend might be the source of such reviews. It is in fact the case that I looked at Max's reviews on rentmasseur before I booked him and didn't notice that half of them were from you. I had also reviewed the comments about Max on this site before I booked him, and although there were some red flags (including your own warning that Max might come across as cold, which he did), there were many positive comments, so I booked. Only after I later saw a thread praising Max did I decide to put in my two cents. At that point, it all came out in your and my exchange, which was collegial, that you had not only written half of Max's rentmasseur reviews but many of the positive comments on threads about him (n.b. the day after our exchange, a seventh, one-line 5-star review showed up on rentmasseur from "MartinMax"). I don't think multiple postings of favorable reviews is a proper use of this site or the review function on massage sites. I don't know why someone would do that except to act as an advocate for a masseur. If you meant otherwise, Harry, I wish you would consider this in the future. One rave review should be enough to let people know that you had a good experience with a masseur. I don't know your relationship to Max (look, this site is anonymous, so it's possible you ARE him; maybe I am?), but it's beside the point. We should add our individual experience with a masseur to the mix, positive and negative, and let our brothers here sort it out to make more informed decisions based on the whole of what is said.

2) My sentences, which you quote (and it's disingenuous to make a point quoting selectively as you have done), are an immediate response to EVdude's own response to your comment about Max. You quoted your own rentmasseur review of Max, and EVdude responded "you should go into business writing reviews for masseurs. Your description of Max reads almost like poetry! You sold me." In response, you replied, "I like your idea... I would get a free session from each masseur on masseur finder and rentmasseur and provide a thoughtful review." It's all on this thread. The context of my remark therefore was your own joking about getting free massages for posting positive reviews.

I find that a lot of people on the forum have very high/varying expectations of what a masseur should/shouldn't be providing at a particular price point. I do understand that it can be difficult at times to understand just what you may be getting, but I do also think that as three types of a massage are listed, that perhaps different services come with different rates. My main thing to say, is be upfront about what you are looking for and don't leave things to assumptions.

I've asked regarding the erotic part to certain masseurs and they have said, yes it does depend on chemistry, but at the same time, they are not escorts and the assumption that something very specific may happen isn't fair, unless it is discussed prior to the meeting.

I have been to Max on numerous occasions and have left satisfied on each and every one. He's very personable (perhaps this comes with seeing him over time) but I don't think it is fair to expect to just give someone a BJ because they are giving you a massage. Further, he runs two ads on two different sites, so unless you are specifically saying where you found said ad, and what you expect, I'm not sure the masseur owes you more than what you contacted them for, and that is a massage.

Regarding rates, I myself have been frustrated at high rates at times, but if i am not willing to pay a higher amount for a therapeutic massage, I move on.

Customers should feel uncomfortable asking for anything sexual since it is illegal. I also think it is very unrealistic to assume anything about a masseur and the service he offers simply by judging the photos in the ad or the price. There is no such thing as trusting the ad.

If you have the balls to ask about a particular expectation in advance (before ever meeting), always expect the MT to say YES. The MT is not motivated in any way to discourage a new customer appointment. It's far better to get the new person in, even for one time, then to say no to anything.

I would find suspect any customer who wishes to lock in details in advance of his appointment. I'm sorry to say this, but if you feel any need to insist on a particular action, like "touch my cock or my asshole," you're probably a fool for a customer or worse, something is off about you.

Every time I book an appointment with a HE massage therapist, I say in my communication, "I love a sensual man, but the massage is the most important element to me. I will arrive in your studio freshly showered, with no expectations." All I can say to readers is I have never been disappointed in the sensual department. I have had some mediocre massages, though.

I can say this from my spa experience, service providers don't like pushy, needy, demanding customers. They can feel and sense when a customer is desperate for something. People who enjoy giving massage tend to be very sensitive. If you drop the desperation and go with the flow of an organic experience, you're likely to experience the best results.
