And so my fellow scribes and posters, which picture do you think will win the Oscar for Best Picture next Sunday night? And why do you think your choice will win.

I very much hope BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN will win and not because of political reasons, though a win would certainly be a landmark for recognition and acceptance of gays by the media, the arts, the Academy, the public.

But I think it really is a beautifully crafted film on all levels -- writing, acting, directing, photography. It's a film about loss, a theme that affects all the characters and one that certainly has affected audiences.

But I fear it may not win. A writer in the Washington POST says, a significant number of older, affluent Acadamey members, however tolerant, pressed stop on their DVD players the moment the two men kissed. CAPOTE, the writer argues, is about a gay man who is not shown kissing. CRASH may also be a cotender, especially is CAPOTE and BROKEBACK split a vote. A vote for it salves the noble consciences of many Academy members.

And so....your envelopes (comments) please.....

It's definitely a horse race.

Brokeback was beautifully written, directed, and acted. But the same can be said for all the contenders. This is the first time in several years there hasn't been one clear leader of the pack. All of the best picture noms stand a chance.

The Academy routinely surprises pundits and prognosticators. They often vote against type.

I don't think best picture can be predicted.

Brokeback crested too soon. Too many jokes

turned it into a joke. Personally, I think

"Crash" is the most important film from last

year, and I hope it wins. The safest choice

for the Academy is "Good Night, and Good Luck".

And everybody loves Clooney. It's the dark horse.

BTW - "Walk The Line" isn't nominated.

IMHO...Hoffman Nailed "Capote" to the Max..Anyone seeing the Old "Dick Cavett Interviews" realizes that!

There were many Older Upper East Side Queens, who emulated his very Essence..Mean, Vindictive, self loathing, long after his Death...

"Capote" just might pull this off!...IMHO of course..:7 :7 :7
