The local news just ran a story indicating that the network has pulled the plug on the TV show "Book of Daniel". They said it was due to low ratings.

Here's a link to the article.

Haven't seen the stats and maybe it did have poor ratings. But, it certainly was the big topic around the water cooler at work.

Yeah, the ratings appeared to be rather low and times have changed in the industry where shows are not given a chance to build an audience.

Seems the show lost close to two million views from its first week according to USA Today (sorry don't have the link). I think NBC was just looking to cut its losses since it was a contrversial show with low advertisng revenue. A lot of factors played into its demise especially since it was on Friday nights which is not a high veiwership slot and the kiss of death for many shows.

They still have about eight eipsodes in the can so maybe one of NBC's cable channels will broadcast the show later. Its possible this show could have an afterlife (pun intended) on DVD. From discussons at my office it had a core group of fans. I will certainly buy the DVD set if its ever released. That show had potential for some great storylines.

That sucks that it got canceled. I have to admit that I didn't get a chance to watch. I rarely watch any television nowadays. I spend so much time away from home that I never have the time :-(

Although the show appeared to have things going on developing a realistic gay character, the family dinners were way to unrealistic and I found unfunny. Second, the show was not taking time to develop the supporting characters. Instead chose to throw it in your face, immediately. The most realistic parts of the show were the interaction between Aiden Quinn and wife with their respective parents.

Just way too many characters to start things off with. I thnk the show just could not decide what it wanted to do, am I a comedy a drama, real life just what am I. Life is complicated but in TV land I think you have to develop a charater for the audience to rally around first and then go for the nuts.

I think the show would have been better off being on HBO/Showtime rather than commercial TV. I probably would have given the show a little less humor.

"maybe it did have poor ratings"

You have doubts? No network would cancel any show that had good ratings. Ever.

Well said. I never got around to seeing it but my initial gut reaction to the show's premise was, "This ship is never going to sail." Not in this climate. Not at NBC. Not on Friday nights. I wasn't invited to those development meetings.

I'm still stinging that West Wing got the axe. This season had strong writing, great story lines, pulsating action, and terrific direction. But who knows, maybe a Dem Latino president (Smits never did much for me) was too much of a hard sell in the Red States because viewers apparently switched allegiance to bursting, collagen-lipped Geena Davis. I think Commander In Chief SUCKS. Oh well.

This sure is a tough time to be a network television executive, especially at NBC. I can almost hear the rumblings of acid reflux as you walk by their corporate offices.

You can say that about just about any successful show in its first season. Watch M*A*S*H reruns from the first season and the show is barely recognizable.

The show might have grown into itself given time, which is something networks have been known to allow. Alas, the controversy around this one probably helped the network decide it wasn't worth taking the chance.

Well Like I said originally, IF "The Book of Daniel" was Dumped, for whatever reason..Hopefully "LOGO" will get it and show the 13 Episodes that were shot? It definitely more than, fits their Viewer Profile! LOL :7

RE: Book of Daniel CANCELED

Logo is a CBS owned network and not a likely candidate for an alternate viewing source until and if the show is sold in syndication (not likely either)

A better shot would be BRAVO and I do hope it lands there ( BRAVO is owned by NBC Universal).

I am sad to see this show not get the ratings needed to sustain it through early development. I have a feeling that some of the criticism of the show mentioned here would have been dealt with in future episodes.

And like Rock, I am so sad to see WEST WING leave the first run TV landscape. I have followed this show since the beginning and have all the currently released seasons on DVD. As an actor/director, I have seldom seen a show that was as well written, produced and acted on as consistent a basis as WEST WING. I must be the kiss of death for TV shows, cause it seems anytime I really appreciate a show, it ends up being canceled.x(

Maybe I need to start appreciating everything on FOX NEWS }(

"Maybe I need to start appreciating everything on FOX NEWS"

Well, I've been a guest of Fox News but I would never watch any of their news programs. Bill O'Reilly is an actor and nothing more. Just like many others cashing in.

My son has me addicted to "24" and we Tivo "Idol" for the laughs. Seeing Keifer Sutherland's naked ass in that Season Two-Episode 43, torture/all-nude-scene was enough to redeem Fox in my house. Plus, if I could interest Carlos Bernard in becoming my partner, there'd be no need to purchase any more male companions. He sure makes my groin quiver.

Rock..Seeing Keifer's Naked Ass might do something for you. But Apparently it did very little for Julia! LOL :7

At least in his case, he won't end up looking like his Father, Hopefully..LOL :7

I thihk part of the problem with the show was that they were holding back too much. I think it had a lot of potential but due to the contoversy that the network suits were worried about they likley meddled in the scripts too much.

This show was far too creative and edgy for network or basic cable IMO and would have thrived on Showtime or HBO. The writers could have really let it rip on some of the story lines and not worry about the ratings as much. It could have gotten time to build an audience after the first season.

If they release it on DVD I am rushing out to buy it that's for sure.
