For the last week I have been having trouble with firefox. so much so, that tonight I finally uninstalled it. Every time I opened firefox, it would change the display to 8 bit color, or for all intents and purposes, safe mode. The speed had dropped to next to nothing. When I used IE, no problem. Got spybot, cleaned out a bunch of nasties, and tried firefox again. Still a problem. Uninstalled, then downloaded and reinstalled. Still a mess. Sad, I loved firefox, but it's back to IE. x(

As for the new review site, it has always opened slow for me and I have DSL.

What version of Firefox were you using? 1.0x is a good program and should work for you without causing problems. If you were trying to use a newer version, those are reputed to be quite buggy.

Got it.

I knew tits up. It's a common expression around our office.

For anyone getting their panties in a twist about it, it's a VERY common phrase in the UK (I'm told, and among Midwest Bachelor Farmers) referring to a dead sow, legs in the air and TITS UP.

OIA just didn't ring a bell. Thanks!

OK, I'll ask the stupid question. How can I tell which version I'm running?

BTW, I've had almost ZERO problems since switching from IE to Firefox. Pop-ups are less. I run Spybot and it finds next to nothing when I run it. IE allowed a lot of sites to deposit cookies and other nasties on my PC. Firefox seems much safer.

YEah, the trouble started after I updated about 2 months ago. then this past week, all hell broke loose. I am not saying it was Firefox that caused it mind you, just that it was the most affected and therefore the most visible. i hate to lose it but just can't stand to have to change the settings back everyth\ime I open the damn browser. x(

On the menu, Help->About Firefox.

That'll tell you what version you're running. (And this holds for pretty much any program running in Windows. Help->About is a requirement.)

I never had ANY luck with Firefox "updates". They'd either hang my system or otherwise cause wacky behavior. I'll ONLY deal with Firefox from a fresh install.

That means uninstalling the current version, downloading the latest, and then installing that.

A fair number of people have had problems with Firefox 1.5. A couple of relevant links that may describe some of the problems you are encountering:

If you do like Firefox, one approach you could consider would be to delete 1.5 and reinstall 1.07 -- assuming you saved the installation file. You did save the installation file, right? :-)

This approach might seem like going backward but would allow you to work with a version that you know you like until the next upgrade to Firefox 1.5 is released. Then you could try the new version again if you wanted.

Thanks for the info. I'm running 1.0.7 without any problems.

Yeah, that's a very stable version. Resist the urge to upgrade for a while longer. They'll get 1.5 to the point where it's stable for everyone, pretty much, but it isn't there yet.

Uh, hmm, where would I look to see if I saved it (and if I DID save it, it is a miracle).x(

I have no clue about what you're talking about. Fire this and fire that? Everything works fine for this neophyte. But it's only Thursday. What will next Sunday's sermon say? "God" (or whomever or whatever empowers us) please help us all.

I don't see that it's possible to download it from the firefox sites anymore. However, if you don't have it and want it, I can probably send it to you.

Thanks for the recommendation. Right now I see no need to upgrade. What I've got works great!!
