Straight Rights Update: After alleged secret meetings with the right-wing American Family Association (AFA), Ford Motor Company agreed to pull its advertising from gay publications and cease sponsoring gay events in order to avoid a threatened boycott. What does this have to do with straight rights? The AFA fucks intimidating Ford on the gay issue are the same fucks intimidating retailers like Target into denying women access to morning-after pills. They're the same assholes trying to stop the feds from approving a vaccine for two strains of HPV. (The HPV vaccine—already tested and 100 percent effective—could save thousands of women's lives every year.) When the AFA successfully attacks gay rights, it only emboldens its attacks on straight rights. So gay or straight, the AFA is your enemy.

 

What can you do? Call Ford dealers in your area and let them know that you won't be buying a Ford after this. (A list of Ford dealers broken down by state can be found on americablog.org) And while you've got 'em on the phone, ask them what Ford is so afraid of. The AFA's boycott of Disney was called off after nine years because it wasn't working. When the AFA threatened Kraft, the execs at Kraft told the haters from the AFA to go fuck themselves. But what did Ford do when the AFA threatened them? The "Built Ford Tough" boys collapsed into a puddle. "Ford Puff" needs to hear from people who won't buy cars from companies that cave in to right-wing hatemongers. And when your local Ford dealer tells you that he didn't make this decision, tell him he had better yell at Ford HQ and get this decision reversed. Microsoft caved to right-wing Christian bullies and then reversed itself. Ford can too.

True - Microsoft did reverse it's position, however the bottom line was that the damage had already been done. Their reversal did not reverse this damage. And who is to say they wouldn't cave in again?

 

Also, they are one company who would not be hurt if the AFA tried to start a boycott against them. It wouldn't be successful. They are not the only game in town, but for all intents and purposes, worldwide, they really ARE.

FORD PR IN GAY FLAP

 

Witeck-Combs Communications is advising Ford Motor Company as the carmaker is caught in between the gay rights lobby and conservatives over its advertising and support of gay publications.

 

 

Last week, under threat of a boycott from the right-wing American Family Association, Ford pulled ads for its Jaguar and Land Rover cars from gay publications. That move drew fire from gay rights groups, although Ford cited cost-cutting as the reason for the move. AFA – which also criticized Ford's support of gay events and groups – pulled its threat of boycott soon after.

 

 

W-C is a Washington, D.C.-based PR firm that specializes in reaching gay and lesbian consumers. The firm has worked for Ford's Jaguar, Volvo and Land Rover brands in the past.

 

 

In contrast to Ford, Well Fargo this month stood its ground when the conservative group Focus on Family pulled its money out of San Francisco-based WF -the group's primary bank - because of a $50K donation WF made to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD.

 

"We absolutely made a $50,000 grant to GLAAD, and we're absolutely proud of our support for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community," WF spokesman Chris Hammond told the San Francisco Chronicle.

It is headlines like that that hurt the credibility of some of these blogs. They admit the headline is false in the story but a headline gives one the impression of fact. Just as your headline does. Reminds me of some of the tactics of the right wingers when they make false statements about us.

That satirical headline was not from a "blog." It comes from the Holmes Report, one of the top magazines for the public relations industry. I don't think they've got a credibility problem. :o

IT WORKED

 

Well it looks like it worked. All the rucus gays started when Ford withdrew it's Range Rover & Jaguar ads from gay publications has paid off.

 

I just read that Ford has, in writing, confirmed that it will not only continue to advertise these two brands but will also include ads for all their other marques that previously were not advertised in gay publications.

 

So, as I see it, the AFA lost bigtime. Their threatened boycott backfired and they have created a climate that INCREASES Ford's advertising to gays. Looks so good on them!

 

As a side note, the Wells Fargo bank didn't buckle under either. Too bad Proctor & Gamble didn't have the same size balls.
