Would You Cash a Check for 5 Cents?

Cashed the check at my bank today. The teller laughed and said she had cashed one for a penny recently. I have a whole nickel to spend.

huh. I'm currently debating whether to do all the digging to find out about some pension my father had payable upon his death in 1991. I'm 99% sure this was some rounding error in the amount my mother was cut a check for, and is going to end up being 50 bucks which I need to split 6 ways with my siblings....

I know these small ones sound silly, but class action lawsuits have resulted in these checks getting issued.

 

Yeah, I had one of those that a Citibank ATM refused to recognize. If I was diagnosing the software behavior I'd say their OCR code stops when it sees "$0." (i.e. a period after a zero). It was during the day so I walked around and had a teller handle the deposit by hand, the worst possible outcome for the bank.
