There is always someone who will make money out of any activity. If it's just a seller and a buyer, let them do it. If it can't be stopped and there are intermediaries who profit, why should the ones that profit not be the government (which means us). Governments in Australia have gone far too far in promoting slot machines for the taxes they take. The misery of addicts seems of no concern to them, but they could ban them (but won't) and the problem would go away. Taxing drugs seems a win-win as legitimising them aids sensible control, legal sex work would be a harder thing to tax, but the fact that it is legal would make it less problematic for workers to declare it to the tax authorities.

Best line I ever heard about politicians was in the movie, The Hunt for Red October, Ryan is sitting across the desk from the National Security Advisor who says,

"I'm a politician, Mr. Ryan, which means when I'm not kissing babies, I'm stealing their lollipops."

That sums it up succinctly in my mind.

Legalizing puts the police back in charge of enforcement of industry regulations. Decriminalization gives workers protections allowed to any other profession.

Was Ayn Rand an anarchist? Hell no!

 

Libertarians: embrace elitism by birth or by natural selection (wild capitalism).

 

Anarchists: reject elitism of any kind by bosses, rulers, politicians, etc.

 

To an anarchist, being forced to work for employers, being subject to management power, is a form of oppression. All actions of a company (even going to war during the Spanish Republic) have to be taken by a vote of the group.

 

To a libertarian, being forced to work for employers, being commanded by bosses, is consistent with liberty because no one puts a gun to your head to take a job. A libertarian always has the right to live under a bridge if he wants to. Obviously most libertarians want to be the boss in the future and even when they poor the vote consistently as if they were already in power, if life doesn't work out well for them, they'll just blame the damn politicians and bureaucrats for their failure.
