Yes, The Nob Hill is still alive and well. When I'm in SF, I drive down the street on which it's located and view the conspicuously-gay marquee and the current happs. At times I consult the website but have NOT been there in a few years. When Rafael A. is in town, I've always wanted to see him but still have yet to do such. In the recent past, they were so desperate for entertainers that they just started getting drug addicts inside to perform and also allowed a known HIV+ performer to entertain and do private shows (that's when I quit). It suited the theater in a way that they were short on performers and it worked well for those guys to get an easy $20-30... As a result, the line-up became less appealing, prices went down (real performers like Rafael A couldn't get as much) since many of these "off-the-street" guys started charging $20-$40 for a private show, while no "normal" entertainer charged less than $120-$150.... it was a mess....

 

Not sure how it is as of right now, but it has changed and definitely not for the better. Even 10-15 years ago, a friend of mine was flown out from Europe, got accommodated and got a flat fee for each performance (on top of his earnings), all by the NHT. Those days are sadly long gone....

In the years that I went, NHT went downhill then up then down then up.... cycling through new management, new promotional efforts and new hiring/compensation policies. Its actually lower price today than 10-15 years ago - which probably says something about demand and revenue.

 

I haven't been in years - maybe a decade. And yet, every once in a while, I check the website. I'm not hopeful... but I remain passively curious and open to the idea that they'll cycle through a period when the dancers and vibe match my interests. Its an easy drive, so I'd be able to strike when my interests are piqued.

 

But I wont be surprised if it eventually closes. I believe they survive on tourism, and its relatively unique that a business of this type is in an upscale neighborhood. Things change and it might just finally fall out of favor.
